swapping out stock radiator fan with low pro fmic fan

Just installed a MP FMIC and have the low-profile fan. It's just a two wire fan, but the stock fan was a three-wire. Can I just hook up the positive and negative to the appropriate connections on the stock plug? Secondly, what are the three connections on the stock plug? Is one a sensor wire or something? I gather the larger gauge black wire is the negative, and I'm guessing the brown/red stripe is the positive? Someone help me out here :) I tried searching the forums, but all the results that were coming up were for how to bypass the IRCM and wire in a switch. I want to keep all the wiring stock, I just want to change the fan out.

So should I just connect both low- and high-speed power leads to the positive of the new fan?
