245/45/17 tires

Lots of people are running that size on SCs. They are about an inch smaller in diameter than stock tires though. So unless you get the suspension lowered as well, you'll end up with a pretty sizeable gap between the tires and the fenders.

yeah I lowered it 1.5 have 225/45/17 on now and still have way to much wheel gap wondering if I need to jump up to 18's

Info

The 245/45/17s are going to be wider not taller. Maybe a 55 series is what your after there.

Someone else on here will probably help you out a little more. Mike

yeah im looking to get rid of that gap not sure if lowering it more is possible or if they offer lower springs that have a decent ride or get bigger rims just not happy with the look would be happy with just another inch to close that gap yeah any ideas would be good thanks Ted

225-45-17 is way too small for the car, they probably barely have enough load capacity for the weight.

245-45-17 will be about an inch taller and wider than the 225-45-17. If you go with 245-50-17, they will be the same overall diameter as the stock 16" tires. But there are a lot less choices for tires in 245-50-17, compared to 245-45-17.

I just bought some 235/55/17 Pirelli P Zero's (same tire as the new Mustang - on sale @ Tire Rack) and they really fill up my wheel well - lowered 1".

245/40-18 here on 18 arelli jovans. thing looks like a 4x4 truck with the stock springs in there but hopefully not for long. For my setup the proper size to keep the 26.6 OD that the stockers had is 245/45-18 but the 45 series wasnt avaiable in the tire size i wanted

That's a good choice too, especially for those with 7-1/2" or 8" wheels. That size would be slightly taller than stock, about 27.0" or 27.1" diameter. Works out fine, my 255-45-18 are also around 27.0", and my car is down 1-1/2".

Lots of people seem to have the 17 x 9" Cobra R replica wheels though, and the 235-55 would be stretched out pretty far to go on a 9".

Look at my member photoes for what they will look like even with a lowered car.

I went with 255/50/17's and couldnt be happier

yeah damon Im going with 255/50/17's what sucks is I just paid 500.00 for these things, guess I should of looked into it a little better oh well its only money :) thanks guys as usual very helpful ..........ps damon your car looks good!!!

255/50/17 are to big. They will rub on a lowered car. I run 255/45/17 on 17x9 cobra r's. They fit perfect on all four corners. Hankook and Kumho carry this size for around $110 apiece.

Both my SCs have 17 X 9 cobra R knock offs with 245-45-17 on front and 275-40-17 on the back.

If you want the same size tire on all four wheels, I reccomend 255-45-17s.

David

As I mentioned further up the thread, I have 255-45-18 with 1-1/2" lowering (Eibachs). Depending on your wheel offset, you may need fender lip rolling or trimming, as well as air bags in the rear springs.

I have 245/45/17's on my car because the way I chew them up they are VERY cheap tires. Since Mustang GT's use them as a stock size almost any tire store will have a set in stock. They are a little lower than the stock tire, but I have eibachs on my car so its low as hell to begin with.

If you want to lower your car more, chop a coil off all of your springs. Drop you another .5-.75".

Want to run 17x10.5 on the rear, how bad will it rub? Car is lowered 1.5'' all the way around but has air bags in the rear. Will I need to roll the fenders?

I run the same combo as you. And the other day I checked on tirerack.com...you can get a set of Kuhmo's in 255/45/WR17 for 97 a piece if I recall. That is my next project as well--replacing the cheap tires that the car came with.
