Anyone have a set or pair of unused (new) Tokico Illumina II shocks they aren't going to use? I need a set for one of my cars. I'd even take singles if you have one. Just thought I'd check here before throwing down retail $ for a set. Let me know what you have.

Thanks,

JD

Hi Jerry,

Do they have to be Illumina IIs ??

RockAuto has the OEM Motorcrafts listed for $104.79 each (Front or Rear)

There are also 5% discount codes floating around on the WWW that you can apply.

That's the route I took about 5 months ago for my 35th.

$104.79 x 4 x .95 = $398.20 + Shipping

Shipping for me was VERY reasonable @ $14.82 for UPS Ground. Very HEAVY package.

I heard that the Illumina IIs are a bit firmer than OEM but don't last nearly as long before going soft.

Numbers are AM-572G (Fronts) and AS-263 (Rears)

I have a set of low mileage Illumina II's and Eibach springs that I'll be selling soon as a set for $400 + shipping. They aren't off the car yet so if you are in a rush I can't help you out.

Paul,

Thanks for the info. I found a set of Tokico Illumina II shocks at www.prostreetonline.com for $393.80 + shipping. That's the best price I found after extensive searching.

I assumed that the Motorcraft shocks WERE Illumina II's; just painted black. If this isn't the case, I'd rather have OEM replacments. That RockAuto price is very competitive. And, if they're the "right" shocks, I'd rather have those. I'll check 'em out.

Thanks!

PS: Fixed my Cougar cluster problem this weekend, so P/S for repair coming your way soon. I'll keep you posted. - JD

I don't want to lower the car, so I'm going with the OEM replacement shocks.

Thanks anyway,

JD

Paul,

Found 'em. Have you installed these shocks and put any miles on them yet? If so, how did the car perform?

I have not installed them yet....waiting for warmer weather and for the originals to get to the point where they REALLY need to go! The car has 95K on it and still rides nice so the new ones I bought 5 months ago were just for back-up. I don't know when Ford/Motorcraft will Obsolete these babies but it must be getting close. The Motorcrafts are made by Tokico, which is the OEM and was the OEM when the cars were new. However, it is my understanding that the Illumina IIs are manufactured to different SPECS vs. the Motorcrafts, rendering them with a "Firmer" ride than stock. (different valving???) Maybe someone else out there can verify that as being the case.

P.S. I'm glad to hear you found the cluster issue and have decide to keep the car after all! Sometime you'll have to update me on what the "Gremlin" actually was.

Regards,
Paul
