Is there any difference between these two brands!? I mean your experiences of how they work...

Which one is better or are they equal?

I've had great luck with Goodyear Gatorbacks. Plus they have a lifetime warranty. Of course if a belt breaks, you will need to go back and find the pieces to turn in for the warranty.

If you want or need to run a shorter belt for the SC, I think Gates is your only option becasue they offer the next size smaller, Goodyear doesn't.

I don't know about gates.

The gator backs ribs on the inside of the belt are not continuous. My main accessory belt has continuous ribs, but I don't remember what brand it is.

All my belts are gatorbacks. They are very strong and durable but I think the rubber is a little too hard and it may slip a little on the SC.

I will install 5% sc pulley and 5% jackshaft pulley so I think I need a shorter sc belt. And then my only option is Gates, right!?

But the other two belts...You think Gatorbacks are better in those!?

I was able to get a Goodyear Gatorback belt to run a 10% od pulley. I'll see if I can find the info on it.

I think I want to get the gatorback belts. Sometimes when my car shifts to 3rd and the convertor locks up I hear a quick squeek from under the hood and I think its the belt slipping from the quick drop in rpms. Thats the only thing I can figure. My belts will be getting replaced in a couple of months so I'll have to order the gatorbacks because my local auto zone doesn't stock them in my sizes.

I've used just about every brand of belt made and I don't think it really matters which one you use.

I had that same problem and it was because of my A/C delete setup. I was running the belt over the alt. tensioner and my stock tensioner spring was shot so it would squeal the same way. I've since gone to a stationary alt. idler from an N/A bird and I'm using a ribbed plastic pulley on that with no problems. Check the snout and see if there's any burnt rubber on the SC or around the Jackshaft.

Dayco makes a belt competitive with the Gatorback. Called the Polycog, they are cut similar to the Gatorback to allow tight radius of the belt without stressing the ribs.

Best Gates has is the Micro-V, which just isn't as good as the Goodyear or Dayco for a tight pulley diameter.

I'm in a similar boat as you. I have a 5% SC pulley and a 10% JS pulley. This means I'll have to use the shorter Gates belt. I don't have as much confidence in it as my Gatorbacks so I plan to have the pulleys sandblasted when I drop some braces off for powdercaoting.

I was under the impression that this combination used stock belt sizes.

I've used all different brands of belts on my cars. I personally think Good Year belts last so much longer that any of the others.

I read about this forum that if you're using just 5% pulley it's ok to use stock size belt but adding another 5% you have to use little shorter belt.

My situation is that I already have both belts, Gatorbacks & Gates! I just have to decide which one I'm going to use... It's always good to have extra belts in the trunk in case if something bad happens...

Now it seems I will use that shorter Gates belt with sc pulley and two others will be Gatorbacks. How that sounds?!

I can tell you that I have great luck with both gates and dayco belts. I believe the grooved type belt may help it stay cooler and reduce slip.

I can tell you absolutely that Kelly Springfield belts ARE NOT good to use for your SC setup.
Gates are a good belt when you canot get the Dayco or goodyear in that size.

This is all based on the many SC's cars I have had. The goodyears and dayco have never let me down. GAtes are good as well

I use stock belt on my set-up which is 5% sc pulley and 5% JS pulley and it's very tight.
If you are running 10% sc pulley with stock size JS you need shorter belt. You have to remember that 5% or 10% SC pulleys give you smaller pulley sizes but 5% or 10% JS pulleys give you bigger pulley sizes.I'm pretty sure if you run stock size Sc pulley with 5% or 10 % JS pulley you need longer belt.
Back to the topic.I changed all my belt for Gatorbacks awhile ago and after about a half a year of using those my sc belt started slipping like crazy.

Hmmmm....seems that everyone has positive and negative experiences of both of them...

So will the longer SC belt work with my set up at all? Will it slip under more boost?

I get my belts at a local parts house. I don't believe AutoZone or Advanced Auto carry Goodyear Gatorback belts, but they might now.

AZ has Gatorbacks. As far as I know those are good for accessory belts. The design is supposed to last forever and run quietly. However they don't grip for snot so I don't recommend them on the supercharger. Gates belts are the best for the supercharger. I get them from Rock Auto.com.

This is the one I have, but it might be slipping. I might try the Gates belt next.

Dave, does rockauto carry the correct belt size for use with a 10% od pulley?
