Rented a Charger with the Hemi

It's been a while since I posted, lots of stuff going on, Baby, buying a house things like that. I had to go to Georgia this week and had a choice between renting a minivan or a Charger. I have rented them with the 6 in them and really liked the drive, stereo, overall fit and finish. It ran well enough but wasn't a screamer by any means. As I walsed out to this car I noticed the HEMI badging and the R/T when I put my luggage in the trunk. It starts up and is very quiet for an 8. I gave it a rev and it has a nice tone. Well I really liked the car it has nutz, not big brass ones but has them none the less. here is a pic my camera challanged friend took.

Nice powerful burnout :D

I just saw a deal on the New Hemi Charger on Classic Motor car Garage they where up-grading to a Pro Chrager talk about power gain. Does it sound mean? pull hard?

The drive by wire is a little annoying. When you stomp it it takes a second to fully oprn the throttle but it pulls pretty hard. It's hard to keep it from shifting and taking off in 1st from a roll unless you force it into 1st. I did several burnouts and even holding it in 1st it still upshifts, on one try if was still spinning in 3rd. It runs from 60 to 120 in about 6-7 seconds. I raced a Mercades and just owned him, even letting him pull a few cars. One time that we ran I was still in 5th and we were about even then I bumped it into 4th and walked past him. I got a thumbs up from him after we had slowed. I also ran a Caddy with the 300hp Northstar (one of the Reps we were with) and smoked him after he talked smack about "there was no way it would hang with his Caddy", he was wrong. It's got a nice mellow burble to it when driving around but is quiet on the highway, it'll talk to you when you put the hammer down, but it's not real loud.

x182dan, I don't know whare you got your info from but I doubt it was from anyone that actually spent any seat time in one. I am not saying it's that baddest thing around just that I liked it and it ran great for a 4 door passanger car. It's not as fast as the Camaro or the Mustang but try and fit 4 adults in one.

Actually it was 5 days. The rental isn't what kills you it's the LDW and all the insurance. Like I always tell the agent "I want this thing covered if I wrap it around a pole". I drove it about 200 miles.

Not bad, but a great example of why not to buy a former rental car.:) Reminds me of the time I had wrecked my car and the insurance company paid for me to rent a Durango while my Escort was being fixed. It had a whopping 6,000 miles when I rented it. Now since I could never go 4 wheeling in my scort I decided to play with the Durango. I took it 4 wheeling a few times in the weeks I had it. One time I got it so filthy you couldnt tell what color it was. For some reason the teenagers at the car wash werent happy with me but it was so much fun. Fortunately I didn't actually damage it but ther were a couple close calls and theres not telling how much extra wear was put on the drivetrain.

425 horse is a mid to high 13 second car

Geeze, is that thing a pig or what? With that kind of HP I would expect 12's.

well just like the pathetic mustang it has issues with drive wire tech.

and traction controls .

and its irs 4000 pounds even the srt 8 has a hard time burning rubber with controls on . with tweeking the perform well.

its a lux sports car not a pony car.

the mustangs run like crap out of the box too the drive by wire does not let it wot fast or stay full throttle during shifts .

but with just tuning and drive by wire work done mustangs can go 12s .

the dodge boys dont have much experiance with this car yet but give em time hell our sc's were 15 second toads for yrs.:D

the SRT-8s have been running 12.6's stock ive seen...

the 425 hp is very under rated.. its closer to 500.

they also have a 4300 curb weight.

thats why the regular hemis run what they run.

might want to check Cahrgerforums.com, the R?Ts are hitting low 14s/high 13s STOCK and the SRT-8s are hitting high 12s/low LOW 13s with at least 1 300C SRT-8 hitting a 12.5 BONE FREAKING STOCK.

It's true just look at all the posts of the cars I have rented here. I Think there is another one with a Crown Vic or a Grand Marque that I have burnout pics of, then there was the Impala with only 5K on it that mysteriously lost reverse . I had to Fred Flinstone it into a parking spot backwards so I would be able to leave the bar that night.

When the Sebring convert first came out my wife and I rented one in Arizona. We took it up to a little town called bumble bee and the roads were all dirt and gravel for about 60 miles. After a two week rental and 3000 miles that car looked good but it was trashed.:D
