I went to get my summer oil today and the parts store says that Mobil 1 switched to 5w50 instead of 15w50. Has anyone else seen this or is Partsource on crack?

Is this a Canada thing then? I will check a couple more parts places tomorrow and see what I can find.

So, is 5w50 going to still be ok in our cars?

Like I said before . . . the Mobile 1 Extended Perfomance Oil is 15W50.

I am sure we can get it.

I bought some yesturday at AutoZone for the lawnmower.
It uses 1.5 quarts.

Think it would be ok to use the leftover half qt.
to fry mushrooms in? found three today. :)

Not to sound like a newbie but what are the advantages of running 15w50 over the standard 10w30?

Not to sound dumb Dave, but why is it now labeled 5W50?

Per someone's comment, looking for 20w50, as far as I know, Mobil 1 Never came in 20w50

I just had 15w50 put in my SC yesterday. Only 1 (now) of the 5qt containers left at the Wal-Mart.

I just picked up 17 bottles of the 15w50. That should last a while.

In my 91 I use Valvoline 20w50 Race oil in the warmer months and 10W40 in the winter. In the turbo car I use Valvoline 20W50 Full synthetic all year round.
