I have begun a new project. In my 89 SC I have had the stock sc3.8, a turbo 3.8, a 5.0 and now im working on an engine that has impressed me more than any other. So, instead of putting the ol'gal to to rest, I will give her new life! Anyway I got bored and made a short video. Make sure you have sound or it will seem dumb. Maybe it will seem dumb to some in any case.

Cheers!

Dude...that is tremendous. Hilarious production, great cliff hanger ending and inspiring to boot. Bravo

VERY INTERESTING.... not something that I would do, but it may turn out to be an interesting setup none the less.

Oh... the vid was cool.... kinda corny, but

Haha, it is a cool vid tho.

Those are some strong motors...Easy 600rwhp:O)

What transmission did ya use?

Um.. I enjoy the experimentation.

but now your just going to have to make even more power to go faster with turbo setup.. your putting it in a heavier car with peaky power band characteristics.

I dont think it would be as fun as say... an AR powered 3.8.

but maybe you should put an SC engine in the Supra now... and show the Supra guys how to run faster times with less peak power. They might learn something.

Im glad you all enjoyed that. Yes, the Supra is a boat as well, 3600lbs. The photo was photochopped. I done a poor job of it so that it was obvious that the engine is not in and is still a work in progress. I plan on using a stock supra automatic. They can be had for 200 bucks and will hold 450rwhp before needing built. The 6 speed would have been nice but thats about a $6k swap there. The auto will be much easier on the tbird rear end as well. I love driving the Supra but never take it out when it even looks like a drop of rain may fall. I had a vaccuum line collapse to the wastegate and stuck shut a few months back when I went with the single turbo and had a piece of valve (yes a chunk) bounce around in one cylinders, so I put a new engine in and now have an extra. The Tbird has been down for over a year now and I really loved driving the car. Its also the first car that I bought myself, so I hated the thought of getting rid of it. Soooooo, in goes the 2JZ. It will make me a very happy daily driver and one heck of a sleeper.

There's a person that I know that is puttin one of those in a shoe box Nova, now that will be interesting.

They're soooo cool. If you floor it you only have to wait 5 seconds for it to start making power.

Apparently you have never driven one. Or at least not one that was running right.

Here's a suggestion maybe. Ever think about putting maybe something like a powerglide to that 2jz-gte?

As comments about 3.8 AR'd motors being superior....ok....2jz-gte have gone 6s....enough said.

Just put a pair of turbos on your SC motor and it will make plenty of power. Supras are cool, but I think the MN12 is way too heavy for that motor.

Those motors will push 800rwhp on stock internals, there is no "too heavy" when we're talking about 800 at the wheels.

The problem with putting "a pair of turbos" on the SC motor, is that it would require fabricating EVERYTHING. Manifolds, Lines, fittings, intercooler solution, IC pipes, wastegate solution. On top of all that, you're going to be hard pressed to find an engine management solution. Even then, when it's all said and done, you'll be replaceing head gaskets non stop.

I loved my SC and I still love SC's, but you have to face facts. The 2jz-gte motor is superior in every way.

A lot of these guys will talk about peaky dyno graphs and not enough area under the curve, but most of those talking haven't seen a properly tuned import motor.

What do you think your gonna have to do with a 2JZ?

What do you think your gonna have to do with a 2JZ?

The same thing, but you'll have a wide variety of options on a well supported platform.

On top of all that, you probably won't have to custom make the manifolds, and might be able to squeek by with wastegate dumps, depending on if you go single turbo or bi-turbo.

Well, I can either spend the time fabbing something unique and very powerful and ver reliable or fab up a twin kit for a 3.8. The 2JZ as said, is superior in every way. I own both motors, I know. I used to do a lot of reading about Supra's before I bought one and never heard anything good about them if it wasnt on a Supra site. How bout that. I never thought I could afford one, but fell into an outstanding deal so I picked it up. The 2JZ is simply an amazing engine. People talk about peaky hp, but I have a lot of power under the curve and I dont wait 5 seconds to make boost with a T-70. Heck the stock twins had hardly any lag with the seqential setup. Also, the Supra weighs in over 3600 lbs, the TBird IS NOT too heavy for this engine. Everyone talks about 600, 800, 1200hp supra's all running 12's. Just a joke but some believe this. A 2JZ with STOCK 6 speed transmission runs in the 8's and this is not an oddity. As far a traction...what kind of traction would you have with 800 rwhp on street tires? Not much! Anyway, this thread wasnt created to decided which was a better engine. I am taking a very tough engine and putting it into a car that I love to drive. Thats all.

Cheers.

What I don't get though.....is there something wrong with the supra? From the video it looks fine, I'd rather drive the Supra....but I imagine there is an explanation.

I think he said he had a spare motor for it, but its late and I might be wrong and I dont feel like re reading the thread
