Looks mean! :D I love the old school Keystones. My brother-in-law used to have a 71 Chevelle SS396 that had a set on it.

Got any dyno numbers yet?

thanks, i need to clean the keystones up some.. needs alot of TLC.

no dyno yet.. dont know if i really care right now lol

Ill just say est. 600+ based on what I think the compression is and the build itself. on thats on 93 octane..
from what ive been told its "been built" to handle nitrous. or NAWZ, for the rice. but i dont really like the bottle.

but from what ive seen id say its about right.

Nice looking car. Only thing I would do is clean the rims like you said, and take the stickers off. I like the paint job a lot, just stickers look like blemishes.

I like the body style a lot from that era, looks mean.

Very cool ride.....I'm jealous...

I'm guessing thats a 72 or so?....I used to have a Torino that had the same front end.

SWEEEEEEET!!!!! Add another to the list of jealous. But what's good ol' "Johnny Law" gonna say when ya go cruisin' down the street with them big ol' velocity stacks stickin' up so high. I know around here you wouldn't last one day without getting a ticket.

I hope this does not sound stupid but what kind of ticket could you get for that?

BTW, the car looks awesome!

well technically their not "legal" (stackers) but hell ive been pulled over in the supercoupe for having straight pipes, and even then they just asked me about what the car is and liked it and stuff.

in Syracuse, hot rods/muscle cars have alot of immunity. unless your like pulling wheelies/burnouts in the street and driving wreckless, like alot of the kids my age with their sport compacts and mustangs and such.

Thats why I would rather drive like an older muscle car because you get alot more respect from the cops.

part of the immunity is from our Syracuse Nationals car show in july.. with 6500 hot rods and muscle cars.. cops know if they mess with us now that they will pay for it in july. they have their hands full on the streets by then.. but mostly its tracking down ricers who decide to throw beer bottles at squad cars.. and smash into them.. true story.

thanks for all the nice comments, i cant wait. wish I could bring it to the shootout.

I believe its called "obstruction of view". I've been stopped for having an air freshener dangling from my mirror. True story.

Obstruction of view. I believe the law (here anyways) states that nothing may stick up higher than 3.25" above the highest point of the hood.

Have you had the car on the track yet ? It looks pretty quick.

No. give me a couple months to work out the kinks and ill have either dyno or 1/4 mile times.

i only have one chance to run it at the strip though as i will more than likely get kicked out.. no cage.

The car is a bit of a mystery.. the previous owners did not run it when they got it because the tie rods are messed up.. so you would launch, get the front tires in the air a bit, and when you came back down it was really really sloppy. that and one of the sons snapped the rear lug nuts off with just those cooper cobras. on the highway.

they brought it down once to our local blvd.. and no one wanted anything to do with it. probably because it sounds like death. this one guy frankie has an 8 second mustang... but hes a nitrous whore. and one guy who knew the ranchero told him not to race the ranch.

probably because its meant to run all motor. with some mild nitrous.

the guy who built it has a nitrous bottle bracket behind the seat.. so we think he might have just used a 100 shot or something.

but my goal is high 10s all motor. realistically ill probably run like a low 11 but like I said.. the car is one big mystery. Ill get some video up soon.

Wow. That's why I want to put a 460 in my 3rd SC. My engine is a 77 F-250 truck motor. Its at the machine shop now but its done. I just don't have the money right now to get it back since I lost my job. I had it bored .030" over, new freeze plugs and cam bearings, align bored, and decked. I am going to paint the block ford blue hi-temp. Then I am going to keep the stock crank for now, forged rods, 11.0:1 forged flat pistons, lunati cam, ported iron heads, performer rpm manifold, performer 850 cfm 4-barrel, msd distributor w/ vacuum advance, mds 6-al ignition, custom header kit (someone is gonna have to weld it up for me), 3000 rpm stall non locking convertor, C6 w/ shift kit, 250 shot of nitrous through a carb plate, 4.10 gears, mustang hubs, weld pro star wheels 15x3" up front with et fronts, and 15x8 out back w/ 28x10.50x15 ET Streets. 2.5" h-pipe and 2 40 series flows, tips exit through the rear bumper. I'm gonna keep the interior stock for now except for two racing seats up front and a hammer shifter. Eventually I'd like to make a custom gauge pod w/ autometer phantom gauges.

I'm hoping to get 450-500 hp from the motor and 700-750 w/ the spray. We'll see if the IRS can handle it. If it holds up to the foot brake I'll buy a manual valve body w/ transbrake. I plan to spray the bitch off the line and it'd be cool if it lifts the tires. Fiberglass hood and doors. I'll leave the back seat but pull it for the track. Oh yeah and I'm swapping to non abs w/ the vic master and bird booster.

Thunder427
04-14-2006, 03:05 AM
yeah IRS will not handle that at all lol.

9" ford rear dude.

but yeah the big block ford is a good secret.

my engine sounds like someone playing death metal. haha

Scott Long

wonder what it will cost to put a 9" in my SC.... Gotta get it shortened probably and then have some mounts fabbed up. Then I'd have to get some stronger control arms....

ProStreet Rich runs an 8.8" irs still and he's got a super cobra jet 460 in his 35th. Maybe if I didn't spray it till 2nd gear.

I like the Keystone wheels my Dad got free wheels for his Pro Stock SOHC Maverick from Keystone back in the 70's if you check out my web page you can see it. My friend has a 70 429 CJ Ranchero with lazer stripes shaker like the tunnel ram on your car is it a Weiand? what size carbs? 750? 660's work good on the street

yeah that air hat looks nice but..

it has less functionality than velocity stackers..
and no one runs straight stackers alot... mostly just cowl hoods hiding something. but I like having 360 degrees of air filter exposed..
plus the height takes heat away.

im more function over form.

Lots of room under the hood, looks like a "Galaxie" style front end (without the fairlane style shock towers). When figuring the times you would like to turn, I hope you are accounting for the weight of the ranchero's. I thought about one many years ago, but was very surprised just how Heavvvvvvvvvvvy they are!! Best I recall, they weigh out at around 4500 lbs--or more! Weight distribution may be poor, so you need to get as much from front to rear as possible. I am curious about the rear ends in the ranchero. Is it a 9" or a corporate style (integral carrier)? If its a Corporate style, I wouldnt be suprised if its high 2's to 3" (2.92 to 3.00) Seems my research turned up that the best weight for the "Galaxie" style engine compartments was a 2dr sedan (w/posts) in that era. Unfortunately--(as much as I like the 63/64 Galaxies) the late 60's, early 70's werent pretty :( . I did build a 429 CJ into a 460 motor w/CJ heads into a 69 Galaxie 500XL----yea, it was heavy 4200 lbs. LOL anyway :)

its a gran torino basically. ( 1972 ) actually says it right on the dash..

then after this they were based on the Tbird.

but, its actually not as heavy as it looks. I think 4500 is not accurate.

Factory specs suggest 3500-4000. but either way i think it makes plenty of power to offset that.

All of these questions best answered at the track. They have scales, and they have.....well the track.

Go run it, most tracks are open.

I just gave an answer.

im not really concerned about what it will run or what it puts to the rear wheels for now. mainly just getting the carbs tuned and everything settled on it. Its fun to surprise people though.

I think its alot more than what people assume. its hard to judge a car just by looking at it..

but im just showing it for now... by june ill have some more stuff up.

If it makes the power, it'll run something good regardless. A friends brother has a 72 El Camino with a 427 Chevy in it (at least the pistons were for one LOL!), some nasty cam that was still chopping at 60mph, wrapped in a beat-to-hell body in primer. Ran a 10.10@138, taking the scenic route from one side of the lane to the other.
