I have a 90 cougar s.c. which has developed a hole in the EGR pipe coming from the exhaust manifold and am thinking about removing the EGR valve completely (corking the exhaust manifold and vacuum lines and blocking the back of the intake tube with a plate of some sort). Q: how will this affect my performance, I was told because of the altitude here (3500 ft above…) that it might not idle properly. Has anybody done this and how did it affect your performance?

EGR-less

I took that EGR crap off mine LONG ago. Didn't affect my performance one little bit. Some people get a CEL when they remove the EGR. I never got a CEL, so I don't know why some get it.

I think Spinning Wheels SC sells an EGR block off kit. It has a plate that bolts to the return plenum, & a plug for the exhaust maniflod.
