I was in a show this weekend and the only way I was going was if my car was lowered. And here it is... 3" lower. I must say, she looks damn good and it does not rub anywhere.
The bad news is... that for the show.. they stuck me in the sport compact class... so I was competing with a hundred neons, cavis and sunfires.

Sport compact class?? You sure that was a show you were in and not a horror film?? :p :p
Car looks good. So why'd they dump you in with the little sports cars??

Cause I was the only non drag Ford full size car there!! There was a few stangs, but they were in the drag class... so the guy stuck me in Sport Compact. I'll tell you one thing.. I got all the older guys votes.. they kept on coming up to me and asking me a bunch of question about the car, thanking me for doing a good job and wishing me luck on beating the ricers! lol.
But as for the lowering. I want it to sit a hair lower in the back. I still want to keep the raked look, but the back is a tad too high for me.

They are not lowering springs. The springs were cut with a cut off tool. They were not heated at all. To be honest with you. They ride exactly like my friend's SC with Eibach's. The car is not bouncey at all, not a whole lot stiffer then stock. It corners alot better then it did stock. Everybody told me the ride quality would be crap... I do not believe them at all. Whoever told me it would be crap had never driven a car with cut springs. It might not be the best way to lower a car, but with progressive rate springs, it can be done. I did not do it for performance reason, I am building a show car with some go, yes... but I do not plan on taking it to a road course anytime in the future.
Thanks for the kind words.

I like the look. I cut springs once, I hated it. Glad to see you're happy with your car.
What was the height difference on that tire/rim combo you have on compared to the stock tire/rim combo?

Stock tires are 225/60/16, my 20's are 245/35/20.

Just so that you know, my son owns a 1995Bonneville for which he cut the springs to lower the car. He told me it handled a lot better, I can attest that it looked a hell of a lot better. BUT.........after about three months, he started noticing some handling problems. Seems the springs didnt seem to want to react the way they did when they were first cut. I havent a clue about all the geometry questions, but I do know that the shop I get my work done at refuses to cut and install springs. Didnt take him long to realize that it was a mistake. They dont make lowering springs for his car, so he opted for a completed AIR RIDE suspension.
Just my 2cents worth.

Yea.. I wasnt going to keep the cut springs forever. I will be baggin' the car very shortly now. I started a new job... pays hella good and I get 65+ hrs/week. So I'll have the money to finally really start building my car. So it will be the 96/97 front end with xenon kit, fully glassed interior and paint to start. Oh yea.. I am going to add a little go too and of course fix the tranny!
