Oil Pressure

I hooked up an after market electrical oil pressure guage ( autometer).

Here is my readings...

Startup- 75PSI

Warm, 2000 RPM 70PSI

Idle seems low, Its about 25 PSI @ 800RPM

Is that normal, everything else seems good.

Mine seems to sit around 60-70 after it's warmed up, and it depends on the RPM. I don't pay too much attention to it, but do glance at it to make sure oil PSi is still there :)

Mine hasn't read below 50 though, not that I can remember - but the car has only been running for just over a week :D

Wow...........That's an eye opener!!!

On the old school Ford FE Big Blocks that I worked on, the rule of thumb was 10 psi per 1000 rpm for a stock oil pump. When I installed a Hi Vol/Hi Pres oil pump, at idle I got 110 psi cold & 90 psi warm. FE's love oil pressure!!!

Mine is usually around 70-75 at startup and 25-30 at idle when warm. I usually run 10w-40 or 20w-50 (it's primarily a track car - road racing)

I think i read in the manual that it should be around 45-50 warm at 60 mph or something like that.

Normal is 60+ at cruise hot. Idle will be about 20-30psi hot if you use 10w30 oil on a motor with a good number of miles on it. I run 15/50 oil in my 200K mile motor and it sees about 40-45 hot idle and 65psi above 2000rpm.

Replacing the oil pump will not make a difference. You have loose bearings and you should be running heavier oil in the summer heat.

okay thanks alot , thats exactly the answer I wanted to hear.

15w50?

Also could someone explain the oil rating, IE 10w30, would 10w40 be thicker or thinner? would that be a better choice.

My brother works at an oil change and he says they have 10w30, 10w40, and 20w50

So I'd like to get the oil change today, tell me what to get please haha also I have 150K miles
