I drove my '89 SC about 5 miles into town today, and on the return about a mile from home, the check gage light came on and I looked down at the oil pressure gage and it was headed for zero quickly and I could hear the tappets start clicking. I pulled over and shut it off immediately. I checked the oil level and it showed no oil. I put in the only 3 quarts of oil I had , oil pressure came up and I drove slowly the final 1 mile home. Before I could shut it off the oil pressure again dropped to zero. Shut it down and again checked the oil level, showed no oil.
I knew I had a bad leak at the valve covers and was getting ready to replace them ---- but this is a BIG LEAK -- three quarts in about 2 minutes and 1 mile distance. Could valve covers leak that much that quickly or do I have some bigger problem?
