swapping eec's

I'm fixing back up an 89 from parts off my 91. The 89 had EGR valve and the 91 didn't. I bought the egr block off kit, but I'm wondering if it's gonna pass inspection with the egr valve gone.

They don't have emissions testing on these cars anymore, but they still do a visual inspection to make sure nothing has been tampered with, plus I've read blocking the egr can cause a check engine light.

Will the eec in the 91 work on the 89 w/egr blocked and then there would be no check engine light? I could always tell the inspector if he asks, that the motor is from a 91 and didn't have egr.

How hard is it to change the eec???

Thanks!

No you can't use the 91 EEC. You'll need to use an 1990 automatic EEC (code COS) to eliminate the EGR.

Yep!!!!

The PCM will look for the EGR signal and send a code for a low pressure on EGR. The ONLY way to get rid of the check engine light is to get the COS processor (available on 90 automatic cars not from California). This car did NOT have an EGR and works on the same wiring as the 89-90 SC's.
