View Full Version : Ohio DYNO DAY with DALKE

xThunderbirdSCx
06-28-2006, 12:46 PM
I talked with Dalke earlier this week and was playing with the idea of having a dyno tuning day with Dalke sometime in July. Its nothing official yet, just testing the waters to see who would be interested, then we can get in touch with him and figure something out.

Place would be somewhere in northern mid/eastern ohio.

I would be interested in atleast showing up to it. I would only be interested in a dyno if my race car actually would be running by then.

I really need another Tune, and Dave and I was suppose to meet up sometime anyways, so this would be perfect.

Especially within the next month. It would be a good time

Depending on how far from home you actually end up having this, and whether I can fit it into the schedule (I travel a lot for work), I may be interested in this. I was planning to go to Dave's to get a tune done soon anyway.

Keep me posted, please!

Cheers,

The place would be Backstreet Performance in Medina, just south of Cleveland. Cost is $125/hr on the dyno. Tuning is $100 if you already have a chip or EEC tuner, $300 if you need a chip.

As for a date, I'll set it up when I have a firm commitment. I can get most any day if we give 1 week advance notice. Post below if you are definite and indicate what you will be paying for.

Let's keep this on topic. If you need tuning and would be able to participate on the date listed please say so. If something about this doesn't work, let me know that also. Nothing is carved in stone yet.

Just to be clear about this:

1) dyno time is $100/hr. Most tuning takes about 1 hr (we round up and down to the 1/2 hr). This includes time spent after your car is called until you have the EEC out, cleaned and ready to chip.

2) A retune due to an issue with the last tuning session here in Ohio (you know who you are), the cost is $35/hr for my time. This includes any time spent prepping the car for tuning.

3) If you have a chip from me and need retuning because of a mods change or if you have not yet been dyno tuned, the cost is $75.

4) If you have an SCT chip that did not come from me the cost for a tune is $150.

5) If you do not have a chip and need one the cost is $300.

6) If you have an EEC Tuner and need tuning the cost is $150.

All payments must be in cash unless prior arrangements have been made.

Thanks!

David

Dave you know im down for it. I just need a re-tune and 1hr on the dyno, though i shouldnt need all of it

Also my friend with the integra wants to get his dynoed.....not tuned, would he be able to tag along and just pay the 100 bucks and get a couple runs in?

XR7 Dave
07-18-2006, 02:56 PM
I don't mind at all if someone wants to tag along and run on the dyno. Same rate will apply as for the rest of us.

I can set us up for this Sunday but they can only be there in the afternoon after 2pm. That kind of makes it tight time-wise.

We would have better luck next Saturday. They are available all day that day.

If the time frame doesn't bother anyone too much I'd rather do it on Saturday the 29th. Post if that is a problem for you.

So far we are looking at:

Steve - tune one of my chips
Jim - tune one of my chips
Bill H - retune due to mods
Mike - retune due to issues with MAF
Bill S - retune due to issues with alky kit
Integra man - no tune

Anyone else???

Dyno day was long and tiring. :/

Mike made just over 300rwhp which was nice to see, up from 267rwhp at the last meet. Amazing what non-slipping belts will do for you.

Bill also made just over 300rwhp. Alcohol injection didn't do much for him, maybe 5rwhp, but in the end we decided that he didn't have enough boost to warrant it. He is running somewhere right around 10psi. It did seem to do a lot for consistency though because with 8 back to back runs in 90 deg heat the car didn't lose any HP tracking run after run within 3 rwhp of each other.

Steve didn't fare so well. His 1.7L AR was making 18psi but even with alchohol injection we couldn't get more than 235rwhp. There really seemed to be something holding the car back and 2 things that come to mind are 1) clogged cats, or 2) a slipped balancer. The car was running real rich for some time and may have clogged the cats but also the car is generating extreme heat. With the EEC tuner we were only able to command a max of 27 deg timing so we could not test the theory of retarded timing.

Howard put his pristine blue 89 on the rollers for a couple passes nailing a best of 246rwhp with a few bolt on's and no tune. The car was pulling 11.0-10.9 AFR's which is right where the factory commanded it. I few more HP might have been pulled out of it with a tune but he wasn't quite ready for that yet. ;)

I guess the word of the day for this tuning session was MAC Cold Air Intakes. Man, what a pain. Everyone was pegging their meters. On Mike's car we had to run a 60lb sample tube to get enough range to run 42lb injectors. Steve had the same intake and was also nearly pegging the 60lb sample tube with only 235rwhp.

That's about it for excitement over here. I went to get the white car dyno'd today but I got bumped off the dyno and had to reschedule that one. This car seems pretty strong with an MPI and 10% OD it will light the 255/50 BFG DR's like John Force so that's a good thing. :) Maybe we get some numbers tomorrow...

Thanks everyone, see ya' next time.

Weird thing though is that the car feels faster that it ever did....

Yea let me tell you how big of a bummer it is to be cruising along the eway, here what sounds like a bolt hit the bottom of the car.

An hour later, the check engine light, the upshift light, and that BLLLOOUUWWW sound when she backfires is something that Im getting sick of hearing these days,

Well I was impressed to pull off 301 rwhp, along with 375 trq,
But I must say that I am going to be buying the BHJ now, im not going through this nightmare EVER again!!!!

The old balancer snapped off at the hub, and luckily I was able to drill into the part stuck in there and slide hammer it out.

Now my only problem is trying to drill through a broken ez out inside the crank there, them things are extremely hard to drill through, probably need a carbide bit or something, shouldnt of used the loc-tite the second time.
