31 thousand eh.....:D

At 100kms/hr with 3:55 gears I think I'm around 2200 rpm, so if you are seeing 3100 rpm I would say 3:73 maybe, but I'm not sure. Ed would know better.

You said "in drive"....do you mean that or are you in overdrive?
Being around 3000 rpms at 100 km/h in third gear (which is where you would be in drive) is normal.

So with the above being said, you could be running stock gears. Which if it is the same as the XR7, is 3.08.

If you know for sure your gears are stock, the AOD has 3.27 gears installed. There was the odd ball car out there that had the 3.08 as mentioned, but those where few and far between.

It's 5.0, not a true SC. Perhaps these models were geared 3:08 vice 3:27 with an AOD. Also 15" tires vice 16" on an SC. If SC rims are used, perhaps overall tire diameter is reduced (???), increasing engine RPM as well as speedo gear incorrect for the tire height. I figure a combination of these items AND the tranny is not getting into 4th gear. Count the shifts from a stop.

Lift up the rear of your car, both tires off the ground & block it. Put the tranny in neutral. Turn the rear tire while counting the revolutions of the driveshaft. Turn the tire a minimum of 20 times to ensure a more accurate count. This is easier with two people, one counting the tire, the other the driveshaft. Divide the tire revolutions into the driveshaft revolutions and presto, your gear ratio. Of course, if both tires turn the same way, you have a traction loc posi.

3000rpm - 3rd gear = 100km with 3.73's. You were correctly informed.
