That seems to happen often enough I wonder if it wouldn't make sense to devise a wynn/mannysc cobbled together system that would limit hood travel so at least the glass doesn't get hit.

Holy chit dude! I'm telling you guys, if you take your stock hood latch out you are asking for it - ya I'm a stuck record.

Congrats on the mid 11 though, maybe you can run 11.0 with no hood? :D

This was the first time on ET Drags I got 5 passes in today and only one I kept my foot in it the whole way, it just seemed like every time I had to let of cause I got to close to the wall or would start swaying, most passes where like 12.80s @ 86 mph with a 1.65 60' time. Im real pleased with the launch. AFR was alittle rich around 10.6 or so with 18 degrees of timing under full boost.

I think im going to put skinnys on the front they say it helps with the wiggle. :)

Still need to do alittle more tweeking for the shootout

Kevin Leitem

don't try to steer out of the wiggle, most people try to counter steer which just compounds the problem. just try to forget about the wiggle and you will be fine

Chris finds out what it feels like to drive on a real tire. :D Can you imagine what it feels like with 5000hp when it gets a little "wiggly" about mid track? :D

Chris, Do you have any pix of the inlet of your turbo on the hot side? I picked one up the other day and it has what looks like two small exhaust ports from an E7 head. It looks like a total restriction but I KNOW it came of of a huge engine...with a max rpm of like 3000 rpmbut still...Just curious. Sorry about your luck...and I PROMISE I didnt even laugh at Dan when he did it.

Thanks guys for all the kind feelings maybe we can pass the basket around
at the shootout and start a forgot to hook your hood pins fund.

It's the dash board that really got the damage thats what makes me sick.

Hello Lucky Motorist and Welcome to the Dan Sly Club of Windsheild Obliteration!

You are now one of the many fortunate drivers who have been blessed with the initiation rights into this highly coveted club.

I myself have been a member for about 6 months now and i must say, the sheer wonderful feeling of hood pin paranoia everytime you leave your driveway is pure bliss! 0-60 MPH romps will never be the same as you stare at the hood while accelerating hoping to God if wont fly up this time. Also, quadruple checking the hood pins is now necessary to do now that youre a member.

This club is the coolest thing to happen to SCs since Shanes 747 Snow Plowing Galactic Cruiser!

WELCOME AGAIN!

Sorry to hear about your luck Chris. I hope that you get the car all fixed up in time for the shootout.

You like the 747 Snow Plow dont you? Its actually got a cracked windshield currently from the hood hitting it as well. Though I was not the owner of the car at the time and the car was sitting still when some wind caught the hood and slammed it against the windshield.

The almighty 747 Snow Plow!

Anyone who attended the 2005 Shootout remember Chris' tuning sessions at the track? He was tinkering with the car and then driving through the pits mashing the throttle? I only bring this up because I remember the hood was never pinned. When it would start to flutter up he would just stab the brakes to bring it back down. So........................ that leads into my sm@rt azz comment of:

"Wow...didn't see this coming." :)

Sorry, dude. Hate to kick ya when you're down, but had to share that little story. BIG bummer on the dash...as if the windshield and roof aren't enough to fix. Hope you are able to get it together in time for this fall. On the bright side though...if you were ever contemplating a sheetmetal dash, well, this would be the perfect time.

I was just wondering, why is Dan Sly's name always synonymous with a hood lifting off and crashing into the windshield ??
I know of a few people who have had this same thing happen, myself included back in 2000-2001.

Just curious if there were any special circumstances, like somebody catching it on video tape or something, because he's definately not the first or last one to have had a hood fly up.

No one can destroy windsheilds like Dan or as many. He takes one out every shootout.

Yeah, hood pins never seem to be the problem. It's just when they aren't actually put in their place when you have problems. For instance, when my hood pins are in my pocket, and I'm travelling over 30 mph....presto...you got problems.

It's all gud now though...I gots cables.

Chris,

Sorry to see the damage from your hood...but it sounds as if the car is running pretty strong. What kind of MPH were you getting thru the traps, and does the .96 AR housing make it spool noticably slower from a dig ?

David

PS: Your motor looks great.

Been there on the hood deal myself.. I was running about 45 down the road and had it fly up and make me ~~~~e my pants!!! Had to switch out the dash due to the carnage it caused on it also... Let me just say the dash swap is a PIA!

Dave
It spools up so much slower and at low rpm and is not anywhere neer as fun on the street but at 3800 rpm you better have ahold of the steering wheel things get a little fun. I trapped at 119 mph in overdrive, forgot to turn off the OD delete. I'll be heading back up this weekend to add some timing, boost and take some fuel out I'll keep you posted on results.

PS. Dave you got to get yours to the track or did you get banned already ?

Chris,

Sounds like it spools up about the same as mine does. How much boost were you running with ?

We are having a TBU meet next weekend in STL, and I'm planning to race the turbo car then. It hasn't been on the track since the Shootout last year. I would like to do a couple minor things before then, but I'm pretty sure it's okay to race as is. Can't be any harder on the car than how I'm driving it on the street :D Just hope my Dr. Pepper coolant overflow bottle passes tech inspection.
