overheating issue

well first off i did a search and it seems that the others have the opposite fan go out, the first fan on the sc which is the small one in the front went out i think it won't turn and it very stiff -can't push around by hand- so i think that might be the problem but let me describe the situation a lil better its a 95 5 speed bone stock except the air silencer removed i was driving to work today and i heard a horrible noise like something blew apart so i pulled right over and looked under the car and hood and saw nothing wrong so i went on about my business and then i parked it out front of work and let it idle about 1 hour later(i was driving it for that hour i deliver pizza in it) well while it was out front it sat for about 15 mins idleing when i returned to it the guage was about 1/2 way up to the red so i drove it to get the air moving on the rad. well the temp came down while i was driving it. i am confused i just had the iac go out and not this. i haven't replaced the iac yet but its comming soon any ideas?

also in an unrelated prob there is a hose that goes from the sc near the friewall to the firewall to a splitter it blew off the other day and i had no brakes so i put the hose back on and everything was fine what was the hose i can only think brake booster hose but i know nothing about what i am talking about, if that made sense.

well and help is appreciated
thanks alot

First things first. Make sure the inner fan is turning on. The outer fan is a back up if it gets realy hot. You will hear the fan kick on before the M in norm on the guage. If it dose not come on you need to relace the fan motor or it could be your icrm. You can check your fan by hooking it up to 12v. Do a search as there is a lot of good info here on this subjuct. Get yourself some
small zip ties for those vac lines. these will stop them from poping off. This is not a problem on N.A. motors but when you add boost everything is under pressure now.

the inner fan runs

ok cool the inner fan is on i watched it spin for a minute, and the small fan on the front didn't come on even when the temp got really hot to almost overheating. zip ties huh i can do that.
so where do i go from here? did i mention that the coolant is dirty it looks like there was dirt in the overflow tank should i try to flush it out first and then go to the t-stat sticking or the small fan being the source?
thanks for the help

OH, dirty looking antifreeze is not a good thing. Dose it look tan or muddy? On these cars changing the antifreeze is a must and would not let it go for more then 2 years. You might have a bird flu know as BHG or blown head gasket. I hope not for your sake. Change out the fluid ,thermastat and check your oil for water. I never saw my outer fan come on any of my 94-95`s

i am almost sure its not the hg it has alot of power and there are no leaks in the bay but i won't rule it out, yeah the antifreeze looks muddy i will flush it and get a 180 t stat what else should i do? i just had the oli changed a week ago and no anti freeze but this just came up
thanks

when my head gaskets blew i my coolant was dirty as well. being young and stupid i had no idea that his could be it other than the occasional over heating problem. then one day they blew. check it. i made fine power up until the moment they blew.

well f*** if it is that then i might just have to sell my beloved car i can't afford to do anything like that and the car can't be down that long to do it this sounds like it could be no good for my sc love
any more suggestions? i would appreciate it.

p.s. the car had about 117,xxx and the jack hole that sold me the car said they hadn't been done so........................

Relax. My '93 has/had overheating problems as well. Fan worked fine. The first time I drained the coolant it came out looking like mud. Apparently the previous owner wasn't too concerned with maintenance. Since I wasn't sure what exactly had been done internally to the engine and it had 130+k miles on it I just decided to tear into it and replace the head gaskets. The HG's were fine when I got into it. Anyways, fast forward to today where I am waiting for my new radiator to get here. Bottom line is the rad was plugged and not doing a very good job of keeping the engine cool.

If I were you I would try to change the anti-freeze and the thermostat and see where that gets you. You can also take it to a garage and have them test for exhaust gas in the coolant. That will tell you if they are blown or not. My guess is they are fine expecially if they have been done correctly.

i hope so i need the car for work and if that happens(the hg's) i will have to drive an 89 crown vic with the 5.0 and thats no fun unless i make it the fastest 5.0 crown around i will change the coolant and thermo and see where it goes. the down side is i changed it when i got it i had a bad hose and i drained like 1/2 of it and filled up again. the other thing is it looked like to coolant boiled over in the overflow tank but when its hot its only up to the hot line. i hope its not the hg but if it is i will pull the engine and do the hg's and a cam and roller rockers and apr studs but then i will have to do the exhaust or i'll be doing it over again after i step on it

thanks for the relaxer!

SuperCoupes are not intended for delivering Pizzas....it's bad Juju !!

I predict you will continue to have problems.

David

well if i knew then what i know now i would've kept the 94 lx v8 and then got the sc for racing but i didn't know about all the problems and i bought one and found out early on in my supercoupe love that it gets pissy if you drive it daily.

Dam I wish he lived im my hood. We can`t get a hot pizza due to the delivery car is a broken down 90 Escort:D
