What do you think is the best year for the SC?

Of course, I'm biased because I have a 93 but I like the older syle front end look plus the "2nd Gen" rear end look plus the stock wheels. This particular combination of appearance items is only the 93.

I voted for 93..... the reason I even would buy a SC was because I like the looks of the original front & rear of the car. then in 92 .. led rear trunk lights was a plus. and the smaller fuel tank allow the exhaust to be easier to configure was also good too.

89 Gets my vote. People think its much newer like 1993 or so.

I Think a 94-95 5speed with early sc rims would look good

I like the 93, it was the last year for the old body style (Which I like, nothing wrong with the 94 95 just not for me:eek: ) , LED rear lights, new brake system and has to be a 5-speed.:cool:

I'm with Flip, though I think my 91 rides much more solid. Has a better feel on the road.

I vote 93 for all of the above reasons, they should have thrown the 94 blower and oiling on the 93, it would have been KING!:)

I love them all but 94-95 dash just wraps around you in comfort. The only improvement would be to use the 89-93 front end.

1989 - First year production, cleanest styling (shared with '90 and '91). It's the original design intent of the stylists. All too often, there seems to be pressure to come up with something "fresh" in the styling department after a couple of years. I think this usually ends up being an exercise in "what can we change even though it dosen't need to be changed". Personally, I don't see why they changed the tail lights in '92; I don't feel they go with the lines of the car at all. The front end changes in the later years look like a forced styling exercise to me.

But, that's only my opinion. The majority seem to stongly prefer the later model styling, and hate the earlier cars. Personally, I don't "dislike" any of them. If I run across a nice one of ANY year, it's going home with me. Also, the '95 5-speed gets the nod for rarity.

I vote for the 94-95.I own a 91 and a 94 both 5 spds my 91 has 87k and my 94 has 200k. Both are in good mechanical condition but the 94 rides better and performs better than my 91. I like the 94 so much I am selling the 91.

Can't really say there was a "best" year. But fun to discuss. I said 94 since that's what I have and it is the lowest overall production year for the SC. But the year the most SC's were made should be considered too since, the more of these cars were made the better, especially since they're slowly disappearing.

Better braking system
The proper fuel tank
The Original styling (with updated rims)
Steel Valve covers

I like them all, but I prefer the more elegant front on the 94-95's, and the dash also...

But all SC's are great looking cars to me..

I agree! Outside 89-93, inside 94-95. I dont understand why, when Ford finally got everything right mechanically with the car (94-95) they stopped producing it. Just like the 87 Grand National, best and last year for it.

As far as best quality experience-wise, my first was a '93. It had 128k on it when I bought it, and the interior just seemed so well made. It was a cloth/leather combo/automatic. I discovered this webside, started renewing the car, and then finally decide to find me a '95 with low miles no moonroof and auto. I flew fron nashville TN to KayCee MO to buy the car with 63k on it. Found out from a body shop, after having bought at the recommendation of CARFAX, that it had been HAMMERED in a broadside wreck! Oh well, now the car has numerous mods, and 176K on it. I drive it almost every day and it has been very dependable and fun to drive. I would love to do a complete Super6 4.3 overhaul on it and keep it going. Since then I ahve bought a '95 SC 5 speed which currently has 25k on it. The '95 interiors don't have the qualty of the earlier ones. I am in the process of in stalling an MPII setup and it has SCP exhaust. I guess I am hooked! :o

FOMOCO needs to get rid of their politically correct (i.e., GAY) mindset, and concentrate on building good cars, the SC would be a wonderful car to bring back in a new version. :D

Havent been here in awhile...

1. I think the 1989 is the best year. 2. the 1993 transitional year is nice also!
3. 1994, 1995 the least made a bigger blower nice interior the least made.
4. The Cougar 1968 then the 1989, 1990.
5. The collector I think will be the 1989. Motor Trend Car of the year!
6. the 1990 35th Anniv. 5 spd. or auto Will also be a keeper...

1. In the 94-95 the seats aren't as comfortable.
2. In 91 they went to electronics for the heater, just another thing to go wrong.

I have 2 89's gotta love that year!

I personally love the looks of the 94-95 the best. I just think it's the best all around package. But that just my opinion and you know the joke about opinions.....

Which year had the best performance? I assume it was the later models with the teflon-coated rotors for thre SC.
But...they did away with the traction-lok in favor of the traction-control, and I absolutely hate that. If I have to choose, I would rather have the trak-lok

The 94-95 were the quickest due to the better blower.

They only did away with the traction-lok on the auto's the 5 speeds still had it.

i voted 92 its the same as 93 but with old wheels i like em better than the directionals 92s have the better gas tank the 70mm maf no egr still have trac lok and led tail lights but im bias i own a 92 and a set of 91s one 5 spd like my 92 and one auto

1989 cause i have one. I think is better handling for SCCA AUTOCROSS
and motor trend car of the year. I can change to late model blower and have best of all. HAHHAHAH

I say the '90 cause I own one. The wheels are better than the newer style, and like txsc I like the older style tail setup than the newer style. I owned a '94 LX with the led light setup etc, and the way the bump on the lights where setup took away from the smooth look the earlier style had.

95 5spd!!!!!!!! Of course I'm biased. Most power, lowest production number, redone wrap around interior, sunroof etc. Love it, almost bought another year as i like them all but I'm glad I waited to buy my 95.:D

I like how the exhaust is hidden on all the supercoupes. I like watching the smoke come out from under the car in the middle of the winter. I like how in 6 years I will be able to put historical plates on my SC. That will be the most modern looking classical car!

95, duh... lol. rarer... sexier... better designed interior... faster...

(just dont fudge up your cluster or center console... 'specially 5-speed consoles... those buggers are EXPENSIVE to replace...) :D

I have noticed the the 94-94 front bumper has the most aggresive stance out of all the thunderbirds. It could be just me. :confused:

I have a 91 and a 95, and for me the 95 wins hands down. I like the styling of the front end, and the interior layout alot better.;)

all years have their good points, but i'd have to pick the 93's for style. last year for tweed/vinyl seats, cleanest of the early interiors, the rounder led tails, newer wheels, and the original styling.

Had a '90 it was loaded with an auto. Now I got a '93, not so loaded, Had a 5spd now has a 6! Black on black leather full power! NICE!

A fellow member came by my house the other day in his 91. For me it's not just the bumper but the interior of the early models seem really out dated.:eek:

Not really, the difference in our cars was a couple years. My point being that the 94/95 interior is much nicer and not nearly as out dated as a 93!:eek:

When I am in my 95, I don't feel like I am in a out dated car. But it is personal preference here isn't it. Thats why the poll is cool because we all have different tastes and wants and w/ the SC we can have basically the same car but mod them to our taste!

i would go for 89 to 93...i got 90...i would go for those years cuz they really represent the THUNDERBIRD SC outside inside...real deal...94/95 got a bit newer and that classic look was gone....i m not saying 89-93 are outdated i m saying thats how it should be in SCs....

I'm going with the 89-93 body with 94-95 running gear. Either interior will do, but just not the 94-95 front bumper cover.

I say 94, but only 'cause I have 3 of them. Had a '95 also. The 94-95 interior is the winner in my opinion.

I have friends who think I may need professional help, but I tell them nobody but me works on my cars.

94-95 in my book. My first SC was an anniversary edition and I admired the styling of the wheels, silver to black paint contrast, and the suede interior. But those automatic seatbelts rattled so much a coffee grinder made less noise.

I was lately bit by the SC bug again and bought a 94 5spd. Although its boring blue interior needs work, it is redeemed not only by having normal seat belts, but also by the fact that it runs so much better than my anni ever dreamed.

89 was moter trends car of the year and I like it much better than both of my 90s. I am going for best of both worlds in mine with a 95 interior conversion.

This thread clearly shows the tastes of our users. No offense to the later model crowd, but the difference between the 89-93 and the 94-96 (exterior) completely change the car for me.

As much as I love the 89-93, I really dislike the 94+ changes.

Anyway my vote is for 1990... 35th all day.

I'm the complete opposite of you, it was the 94/95 interior which sold me. This was before I knew of the better braking system, blower, better exhaust/gas tank design and programable 4R70W transmission.

I am new to all this but i feel the 89 to 93 r the best years they look like sc and i like the old style i good 2.5 true dual exhuast so i dont have to worry bout the tank.. i pull mind from my 90 xr7 parts car.. but i love my 91 and wouldnt trade it for anything... 89 to 93 all day...

1989 is the first year, but I think it was just a warm up for the 1990 anniversary.

I'm also partly biased cuzz my uncle had a 1990 SC (I don't think his was an anny edition though)
