went back to the old Mercer 1/8th mile dragstrip today. They only give you 1/8th E.T. there. Traction there is not all that great. I finally got a chance to run the new 20% jackshaft. and it worked great. I am running 26% OD now and it really livened up!! It spun over half way through first, to the point were I had to fight to keep her straight. and even after i shifted into second it started to spin again. even though it felt better than ever once it hooked, I figured with the bad spin that it was going to be a horrible E.T. I was amazed to see a 7.15. The best it ever done was a 7.22 on my 11.305 run. next run yielded me a 7.19. and the next run i blew the front seal on the tranny in the burnout box. so that ended my day. I was kind bummed since traction there does get better as more cars go down it. I was hoping for a 6.99. pretty sure i would have, but i guess i will have to wait till next time

It will be fixed, maybe in time for this weekend.

so even with massive traction issues it's running faster than it ever has. I think you are gonna earn a 10 second timeslip in the very near future. That's right I said EARN. The car is sure making you work for it, but after all your hardwork it will be well deserved. Congratulations Kevin!

It has been alot of work, but it has been absolutely fun also. I think i like working on it as much as driving it. but yes i think that 10 sec slip should be comming soon, but hate to jinx it!!

20% jackshaft... where do you find something like that?

Crazy good times. Maybe you need a VHT dispenser dropping in front of the rear wheels like old school guys used to run bleach?

Charles is starting to make them, but you need to modify lower tensioner to do so

What shocks are you running? If a car is setup right then 60ft. will only slow up 5 hundredths maximum by fault of the track.

lol, umm independent rear is a little differnent than a 4 linked race car!

Yea they look like awsome times Kevin. Dont get discouraged because i dont care what your racing when you get out of the 11sec range and hit 10's everything breaks. that goes for the turbo buick guys too and lightnings and the mustangs. If you get it done by friday my friends rented out beaver springs let me know.

Really it isn't. Every car has the same functions during launch, there's just certain parts to help those functions.

Which is why I asked what shocks you were running.

Thats some awesome results Kevin. I hope to see you break into the 10's at the shootout.

I am running koni adjustables (yellows). next year it will be a solid axle with Anthony Jones chromoly ladder bars, with the independent you can't use the rotational force of the axle tube to lift the car and push down on the tires. so your telling me that when a prostocker blazes the tires due to a bad track his 60 is only going to be 5 hundreds off? every suspension works differently, A 4 link works different than a ladder bar, and an independent is probably the worst setup to try to hook. when i go to my usual track, I have pulled a 1.55 60 foot, If i had to guess i would have been around a 1.75 -1.80 yestreday. the car just overpowered the track.

they don't have all the timers working, all they give you is an 1/8 mile e.t. i really wished they had everything working. but its a fun time there, only costs 10 bucks, and you can get at least 20 runs if you wanted.

I said that every car has the same functions, there's just different parts to help control them. That doesn't mean that the parts are all the same. You just didn't understand what I was saying.

I guess you were just at a bad track. There are ways to make it hook good, you just have to have the correct shock settings. With that you have to know what the car does during launch. Are they double adjustables?

I'm just trying to point out that traction isn't summarized by just tires and a good track.

It might look like all I am doing is criticizing your car's traction abilities, but I just want to throw some knowledge out there to help you improve short track performance.

They are good times, but should be better. I will be satisfied when you get a 1.45 atleast, but until then i'm hounding you.:)

Good luck.

that's plenty alright. I know that the car is far from ideal for launching on anything but a well prepped track. I think that with the boost up now that traction will be an issue even at a great track. I am running 27X10.0 ET streets. with the half shafts i think a little slip will be OK! next year though i won't be afraid to do a 4800 rpm transbrake launch and see the 1.45 60's. pretty sure the halfshafts won't like that! you can criticize the traction all you want, I do!!! but for now i am happy with the 1.55 i already have. I don't care what shock I have on the car right now, i don't think it will be perfect.

Wow...THAT SUCKS...for me:( ...I wish I had my car running. Let alone in the 7s. I think I COULD get there, but it will take some doing. I believe I too will overpower the track with my 2.3 Whipple and a five speed....*sigh*....
