A couple of recent shots from Summer Blast V in West Virginia. It took two first place trophies; best exterior and best power adder.
Sorry, tried to make them thumbnails so they would get bigger but don't know how. You can see more here.

Damien, I bought that car because in 5 plus years I want to be able to point to it and show the Jones's exactly what a SC is supposed to look like!! ;)
And it wasn't a lawn ornament when we drove it home. At least, it wasn't supposed to be :(

So, back to where I came in. Is there something specific you were looking for Scott, or just curious where the body ended up?? It is my understanding that it in its current state it is very much not what they had planned for the car, and that apparently the grand plans for the engine, wasn't it for a Coy Miller engine I think, never did end up working out for them.
But yes, it is running. And now that we finally found what was causing the damn boost restriction, not too badly right now either........

Kudos, the jones will be pulling up in their german car and the SC will will be standing strong. You should have brought it to the show. That car has a lot of pride in it as does your 95. Hope to see it in the future. Now back to our regualr scheduled program.
By the way, it was nice meeting you at the SBV. The MAMN12 Stands Strong!

Ira,
That car was supposed to get an 03 Cobra motor and automatic tranny from a similar year Lightning installed. Several years ago I was going to buy the car along with the supercharged Cobra motor and tranny from Brian & Chris and do the swap myself, but we couldn't agree on a price and I was very uncomfortable with all the custom wiring and electronic stuff. So I started the turbo SC project instead.

Custom wiring and electronic stuff. Hmmmm. Now that could explain a few things. Funny, I didn't see that on the window sticker anywhere.
Ended up Brian had a stock long block put in it and then added a few things to make it just dangerous enough that you really shouldn't be running that stock block. Slowly working to correct that.

I'm curious as to where the parts ended up, mainly the griffin radiator, fuel system stuff, 4r70w trans, the coy miller stage 2 engine, and the momo 18" wheels I wanted.
Good to see the car didn't get written off completely. The paint still looks nice and the leather interior looks good. Last time I saw it personally it was at Bob Stegemeier's with a home grown autorotor kit on it and it didn't make over 310? rwhp no matter what they changed in the tune. They were blaming the cam for having too much overlap and said it was blowing boost out the exhaust. I have it on video somewhere, with the "custom" brazed water neck, etc...
I had some good times in that car with Chris back when he was involved in the SC community. I was there for the car's first 12.88 pass w/ Alicia Embree driving. Wade, Chris, Paul (BTM), and I pushed it through the staging lanes to keep the temps down for the run, then alicia gave it hell. I was in AWE of the 12.88 from a V6 barge. Thats when I started buying up SC stuff left and right and well now I'm addicted. SO that car if you ever want to part with it, get in touch.
Who did the 5-speed conversion? I see it now has a stock long block and an autorotor 1.7L that is nice power from a stock block, I assume stock heads and cam and just front mount, intake, exhaust, and fuel support?

I was refering to the wiring and electronic stuff that would be necessary to make the cobra motor and the transmission from a lightning function correctly.

I have no idea where any of the parts you asked about went except for the wheels. When I got the car I told Brian to keep them. I wasn't crazy about the look, and he also wanted a whole bunch more $$$ just for them.
The story I got was that they just could never get the CM engine to run right and I think they may have even blown it up at some ppoint. ? Mr. D put in the new engine and transmission. After that, Brian went and put on many of the bolt-ons. In fact, if you ask Dave, he will probably tell you that the engine was not built with this performance in mind, hence my little projects here and there to support the stronger use.
So your assumptions are pretty close. Click the sig link for the full list. I have had to make many of the little changes this past year, new intake, exhaust, some cooling upgrades and such, in order to try and open her up to handle some of this new found power. I don't know if she's an honest 12 second car anymore, though, but I think we're going to find out.

The rubber shower wasn't nearly as bad as the sparkle tint, which would have definitely cost someone a lot more than a measly $5 if it happened to my car.

Viva la dola's car!!!
And if it makes you feel any better, when it ran it's 12.88 back in 2002? It was a damn fine machine all around...even if it couldn't back it up. The ju-ju hadn't yet taken a turn for the worse.

P.S. How many of these stories do you want to hear?
P.P.S. Those wheels were EXPENSIVE!! Not HRE expensive, but the most expensive I've ever seen on a T-Bird.

That's because the are IMO the best looking wheels ever on a MN-12 car. Well those and the BBS style that the old Tbird Tim out of Washington st had on his car way back in the day.

Talk about a walk down memory lane!
I bought the car in 04 from 'Dola, at the time it didn't have an engine or trans installed. The plan even before then was to put a cobra motor in, but my relocation to Florida limited my available time. It's too bad it didn't work out, that would have been the ultimate SC. Before the cobra motor plan, Chris Mendola put the car tried several different leading edge projects with different people to get the car to it's full potential. I think he achieved a lot with the car, but because he was one of the early pioneers he didn't have the convenience of knowing what would work work and what wouldn't. The most memorable for me was the 2.2L liquid IC Autorotor project, but he also tried a lot of different things with the Eaton.
After I bought it, the car ended up going to Dalke with no engine or trans and he was going to work out some of the bugs and put it into stock condition except with a 5-speed. Dave did a fantastic job, and I think he used a lot of parts from another car to help work out all the small issues it had. Somehow, by the time I got it back from Dave, a 1.7L Autorotor kit was ordered, some borla exhaust, a MP FMIC, and a few small bolt-ons. I drove it for a while in Florida and it was very enjoyable. I ended up having to buy a house here, and I had to let the car go. I am very happy that it went to Ira, I knew he would take good care of it.
The wheels have been well kept, and are still in my garage. I'll either put them on an SC that I will eventually buy, or Mendola can have them back if he ever buys one.
Brian
p.s. Ira, if you ever sell it... I'd buy it back in a second.
Scott Long
09-15-2006, 05:34 PM
Brian good to hear from you. You move around a lot. It'd be cool to see Mendola get back into the SC's again. I haven't talked to him in a few years so I have no idea what he's been up to or how to contact him.
What became of the Coy Miller Stage 2 engine? Did you guys blow it up badly or was it sold along with the transmission?
