That would be your target to go after. Whereever it came from is where I would aim my unloading skills on.
You said that it came out of a old truck. There are people who restore those trucks so start your looking in that location.
Something to keep in mind. I have a 557 inch engine in one of my S.C.'s that being said,it can't be that big, or maybe I have a really big engine bay..LOL Just pulling your chain on that part.........Rich

Thanks Rich! That sucker is pretty darn big! I may be nuts, but I can't imagine installing it into a car. Hell, maybe I need to go take a second look. Frank

Since it came in the heavy series of International trucks, I would advertise it in the industrial type classifieds as well as any farm or rural papers as well. There may be farmers looking to replace the engine in their aging International grain truck, etc.
If you have a Case IH dealership near you, I would see if they have a board or talk to a parts man there, inquiring if anyone is needing a 549 for rebuild.
Then there is always ebay...

Muchos Gracious Scott!
I know the engine you are talking about its a monster. If My memory is correct it was built to turn about 2800 rpms. Market? Well AMC and International shared a lot of engines. Maybe some AMC wacko would want it. I drove a city truck with that engine in it. It would pull a house down. If I remember right it got 3 mpg. on a good day:eek:

You could do like jesse james and make a motorcycle out of it using the block as the frame.

put it in a 99-04 Mustang with an ultra-short reinforced D/S, built 5-spd, F350 superduty rear end and super low (3.00 or lower) gears.
And put a hood on it, just cut a REALLY big hole to accomodate that giant motor.
NINE FRICKEN LITERS.
