Ok here is my question. I have an extra 89sc sitting around. It has 150k+ on the clock. runs good, body is in so so shape and i put a new interior in it a few years ago. I gave it to my stepson till he could get another car. well he got a bigger care for the kids and now i got it back from him. So what should i do with this thing? I dont have a lot of money to work with but was thinking of taking out the interior getting some slicks for it and just using it as a drag car till the motor dies.

I am up for any and all suggestions. thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like you have a solid plan already. Go for it!

True didnt think of it that way. Was split between selling it for 500bucks or just doing what i said till the motor blew up. Thanks for your reply.

Does it have a good tranny that you'd be willing to let a poor highschool student buy off ya for cheap?

I would race it. It's fun. If it's not a car that is worth a whole of money but you want to keep it around for fun, I say go for it, make it as light as possible, throw on some good tires, and some cheap bolt ons, maybe nitrous, and have at it.

And another SC dies.

:o
Thats fine. One less SC around makes mine all that much more valuable.

Thanks for everyones replies. I like the way you think scott. I think i will do that and get it ready for next year. its a decent car. runs good although my stepson said that after driving for 15mins the car will stop running. so not exactly sure whats up with that. Fuel pump, maybe once under load it fails. not really sure. Needs a dent pulled out of the passenger side but thats not a big deal. thanks again.

John, it could be that the DIS is getting hot and shutting down. Maybe just need new heatsink. Just a thought.

I'd put new cam and crank sensors on it for good measure, new gatorback belts (they grip great), and maybe some fresh plugs/wires. Also like was mentioned new heat sink grease on the DIS.

Cheap stuff like cut off cats, flowmaster resonator, 2.5" out the back, no mufflers, 76mm Maf, ic fan, 10% pulley, underdrives, cheap ebay or mac intake, and some m/t et streets on the stock rims, maybe swap in a pumpkin from an auto w/ 3.27's.

just stuff like that will wake it up.

Oh yeah a ripper shifter is a must if you want to race it.

Leave only the drivers seat, take out the pass. and rear, and pull the glovebox, door panels, spare and jack, sun visors, get a smaller lighter battery...

I got my nitrous kit off ebay for $300 shipped to my door. Its a 5.0L mustang NOS stage 1 dry kit pilled for 75 hp. I mounted the solenoids under the wiper cowl (no wiper motor or linkage, too heavy), and the nozzle is hidden on the back side of the lower IC tube.

Just make the interior look like this minus the cage and go at it!

nice cage shane. Did you do that yourself? How much does something like that cost if you have it done? I have some welding experiance but not good enough to do something like that.

John I did not do the cage myself. A local body/race shop quoted me at $3-4k for a cage like that. I think you could recreate a cage like mine yourself pretty easily since you have welding skills. All you'd have to do would be to measure the lengths of pipe needed, make the apropiate cuts in the pipes and then weld them all together.

shane thanks for your reply. They did a nice job on your cage. Is your care in the process of being built or is it done and have your run it? If so how is it running for you? Like everyone i have alot of ideas but not the cash now to do anything about it right now. Hopefully some day that will change again.

Thanks again

well so far so good. Looks good. What are planning to use for the motor. Sticking with the v6 or going in a differant direction? How about drivelin? I have been looking for the articles that have been written in the forums on guys that have put 427 in there sc's. I might beable to get my hands on one of those. That would be awesome to put that in my sc but not sure how difficult it would be or even worth it. Would the body be even to handle the torque of that motor without reinforcing the body.

I want to put a 460 in my 3rd SC. I was gonna build it myself but I might have lost my block to the machine shop. So if that's the case I'll just save up for a SCJ 514. Should get the job done.

It fits, and with an auto the car will take some abuse. Use a C6 transmission. You have to fab custom mounts and make one extension crossmember for the trans, and a custom driveshaft.

John actually I am putting the 3.8L out to pasture and I am going with the venerable 5.0L for my project. Its shaping out quite well so far, if only I had a few thousand extra laying around right now and she'd be running right now and I'd be taking it to the shootout but oh well. Maybe next year. Heres some pics for you:

shane nice car. i have seen your car around before on other posts. i do like the snow plow in the front. Do old ladies and small children get sucked into that thing when you drive past them on the sidewalks. :) very nice ride and thanks for the pics.
