My snout seal is leaking on my 1990 sc I couldnt seem to find the seal by it self anywhere. Bit with 105,000 I thought it would be a good idea to buy the refresher kit I think around 90$. My question is has anyone torn in to their sc to do this and on a scale of 1-10 what is the hardness. Also since the sc will have to come off what gaskets will I need.

I would rate it at about a 4.....

It is a pretty straight forward and easy to take apart.....

I just did mine about a week ago (sounded like a bag of marbles).....

The snout seal will give you some problems, but if you screw some small sheet metal screws into the seal, it will pry out very easily......

I used Aviation Form A Gasket to seal the case....

Have fun....

Yeah, I'll second the "4" It's not too hard at all. I bought the kit from Victor and it worked great for me. Just make sure that you're quick with the frozen/heated parts during assembly! I didn't change the needle bearings, but the rest was simple enough.
