Ignition removal

Ive had a 89sc sitting im my yard for about a year now. I finally getting around to working on it. Now i cant find the keys for it.

If I remove the key switch will the steering wheel unlock. Or is there an easier way of unlocking the steering wheel?

You need the key to remove the lock cylinder.

You have to put the key in and turn it to the accessory position to have the locking pin unlock, so the key cylinder will slide out.

Some locksmiths can make you a key and some can remove the lock without the key. Generally they charge $80 and up. Just an FYI. You might be able to get another column from a u-pull-it for less. The ones around here charge $35. Thats with no airbag.
