the 89 5spd cam was the best of stock cams , so i would use the 89 cam and lifters if possible . you prob have to use the old timing cover and harmonic balancer , and use your old intake the hole is round not square . and check if you need pilot bearing . and use the 89 motor mounts . and 89 injectors .

I have a '94 block in my '90 SC. I used the '90 timing cover and a '89 - '93 harmonic balancer so the '90 crank sensor would mount and operate correctly.

I put the '90 intake, fuel rail and accessory brackets on the '94 block. I even have '90 heads on the '94 block.

If you have other questions about the swap, drop a pm.

You don't have to swap the timing covers but you do need to use the 89 harmonic balancer.
The 94 timing cover can be used with the 89 CID sensor mount, but it won't work the other way. You can't use the 94 CID sensor on a 89 cover. The reason is the 94 cover has provision for both types but the 89 only fits 89.
