I was wanting to know how the intercooler works on these cars...are they air to air, or air to water....and how it goes from the intake....sorry for the newb type question...just wanted to know how it difffers from turbo set ups..thanks

Its air to air. The supercharged air leaves the blower via the top, travels down the upper i/c tube and into the i/c where it is air cooled, then travels back up the lower i/c tube and into a plenum attached to the intake manifold.

so it goes from intake to SC to IC to manifold....if that's tru then...reason i'm asking is cause i don't have a Thuderbird but i have a m90 SC installed in a 3000GT that is not intercooled and was wanting to intercool it...but my blower is basically the manifold...so would putting it after the intake do anything or no....thanks

Very little if any. The point of the intercooler is to reduce the charge air temp after its temperature is increased from the process of compressing the air. If you don't have the added heat of the blower, you won't have much change in temp to gain by using ambient air to cool ambient air.

our cars are air to air, but for such an application as yours you can really do whatever is easiest/works best for you.

Is that a kit? Or did you do it yourself? I see the FMU there, but have to wonder what kind of MOD you did to get it to mount under the intake that way. What kind of boost do you make? Any HP TQ numbers?

thanks for the reply's....about the kit it was pucharsed but it is a custom kit....the FMU was part of the kit but was throwing off my tune so it's not connected as you can see in the pic no hoses....as for boost if you can see the belt is very thin and i think that is a problem for me..it will go up to like 12 psi and then slowly drop to 9 as the higher the rpm goes...not sure about hp, thinkin somewhere in the high 200's...my port for a logger does not work so i cannot check what knock i have and that was reason for asking about intercooler to try to bring down air intake temp down...currently installed coolingmist stage 1 water/meth injection...but still need to dyno tune because on the top end she just does not have the power she does on bottom end..lots of people tell me that it's because of the SC...but on my dads thuderbird SC his car is strong all threw the RPM band....

That 4 rib belt has GOT to be slipping. But even so the blower may be running out of breath. Has it been ported? With enough fuel and 9-12psi I would think that motor would be making closer to 300hp than 200 but I might be wrong.... Kind of sounds like you might have a lot more to get out of it. How are you keeping it from leaning out under boost?

the belt doesn't squeel like it's slipping but that's the only thing i can think of...i have tightened the belt as hard as i can..i believe any tighter the belt breaks..i'm on belt number 4 right now...some have told me to put another pulley right under the SC to help prevent from slipping...yes the blower is race ported..thanks for the replys

Naw...she wont squeal all the time if she is slippin. I HAVE had mine squeal but Im not sure if it was the blower or the jackshaft that was singing.

Is that blower from a GM or a Ford? Looks like you can definatly fit in a liquid to air IC, but it will have to be as custom as the rest of it.
