headlights

i think i rememer reading about osmeone who cleaned them up, you can try searching it, but if i remember correctly they used some polishing compound and stuff. Anyway I just bought new [ones on e-bay, they were relatively cheap.

I sanded off the yellow with 100 grit sandpaper. Then sanded with 320 wet then 1000 wet then 2000 wet. Put my buffing attachment on my drill added a little Plastic-X and buffed it perfect.

Less than an hours worth of work and that's without a power sander. My wifes Escort got the same treatment.

To bring all my lights back to new condition I sanded my other lights with 2000 grit wet and buffed them out and they look great.

If your headlights are not extremelly faded, then you can use plastic polishing compound. It worked well on my car, but my lights were only slighty faded.

Advanced Auto carries a refurb kit that consists of a couple grades of fine sandpaper, some polishing compound, and some sort of clear coating to apply to the finished headlight bezel after sanding -- ~$20.00 -- kit will do two headlights.

Can find it in the same section as the headlight bulbs -- comes in a flat foil package, the size of a book. Just tried it, worked great.

I use mothers mag and aluminum polish. Works good. I don't think it is possible to make them look brand new without breaking the seal to the headlight and polishing the inside also. My way makes them look pretty decent though. The polish costs like $5.
