My ignition cylinder broke yesterday, so i belive my project for tommorow is taking it apart. I can turn the car on but it will not cut off. I have read numerous posts on tccoa.com and Have found its either a plastic piece in the iginition switch or the tumblers, but it could also be an accutator. So i may need some help.if anyone has so knowledge about the steering coulmn lemme know.

John & I pulled the whole lock cylinder assy out on my 96. If I remember right you just put a paperclip or something into the hole on the bottom of the cylinder & it pops right out. Key must be in & in the on position.
Anyone going to Jenro's tonight? I get off work at 5 & I'm planning on heading right up there if anyone will be there.

I guess you could pull the coil pack wires!

It sounds like the plastic linkage between the lock cylinder and the Ignition switck itself.

I can't find a good enough pic of it, but I do know that you have to disassemble the steering column. If you aren't very mechanically inclined, I would leave it to someone who is.

I can tell you that it goes from where the end of the lock cylinder is to where the ignition switch is, and with the tilt wheel it is 2 pieces so that it can pivot also.

Its called a ignition switch actuator. They break quite often. What you need to do is unbolt the ignition switch from the steering column and manually start and shut it off with the switch instead of the key(lock cyl), until you fix it...Dave
