I notice the my tires spin like hell with the traction control off, and i've been told that I should keep it off while doing the 1/4 mile.

Wouldn't it be better to have it on and not spin like crazy off the line? Or not ...I have no clue.

What are the advantages of turning off the traction control?

In your case, you will probably get better times with it on. Your tires and suspension setup does not promote traction. Unlike the street, the track is usually pretty slick from all those cars laying down rubber. The tires don't grab like on asphalt. The starting line is coated with rubber. Don't drive through the water unless you're going to heat up the tires to burn it off. If you're not going to smoke em' up, choose a lane where you can drive around the water.
