I need to move my SC, but the tow company wants 50 bucks to move it two miles and it will take them all day to get here. So I figured me and my dad will just pull it with the Astro. The HG's are done so it won't run. Anyone know what will happen when I hit the brakes without the power assist? I know I won't have power brakes, but don't know what will hapen when the accumulator is discharged. Thanks, just don't want to slam into the van.

Pay the $50.00 if you have an 89-93 SC you will not any brakes to speak of. King Kong cant stop one of these.94 -95's arent much better.$50.00 is much better than paying for the damage an accident will cost.

I know that $50 is quite a bit for two miles  but I agree with 'garsc' $50 is better than paying big $$$$$$$ for a fender bender or something. Just make sure you get your moneys worth and demand a flat bed. :p
Good Luck

Depending upon your local laws what you are looking to do is illegally; though I will say that I have done it (when my 96 Cougar spun a bearing at ten at night).

Though my buddy used a 89 HD Suburban with a 454, and we didn't exceed 25.

Getting caught by the Police for illegally towing the car won't be cheap.

An accident while towing like that won't be pretty either.

The brakes won't work well........... if at all.

Spend the $50.oo and be safe.

It's not that bad. I was towed in my 91 SC after two of my pistons decided they wanted to see daylight. I turned my strobes on, and drove. It took A LOT or pressure on the brakes, and the parking brake at times. Also, it was quite hard to steer, because of no power steering. All in all, it was not hard at all, and nothing got torn up.

The kicker? We towed it 10 miles at 12 o'clock at night.

Oh, and we never went over about 30 MPH.

Can't he just turn the ignition to the run position without starting the car:confused:  That should pressurize the system and keep it going

Without pressure it is REAL difficult (no panic anything) and the emergency brake is a good idea.

Not a good idea to tow a automatic transmission ...without disconnecting the driveshaft first ...
you could hot wirer the abs and pressurize the system ..for a couple of good stops ....before you leave .. it will take both feet and then some to stop the beast ..without it ..the Streering is not bad once your moving ....dave

Thats what I am thinking. With the key turned to the ignition as long as your battery works your ABS pump motor will still work which will keep pressure in the braking system.

I had to tow my SC with a tow strap behind a Ford F-150 for about 3 miles. We just went slow like 25 mph and I left the key on so I had brakes.

Just don't tie the tow strap around the front brace bar, it's a bitch to get the knot out. I had to remove the bar and use a screw driver to pry the knot apart.

If you have to tow anything learn this knot. It is one of the strongest knots known plus you can loosen it in less than a second.

 Come on people, it's 2 miles. Just take it slow and be careful and you will be fine. I guess I'm the only one that grew up in the country where there was no such thing as a tow truck.

Werd. That's the reason that I towed mine in. Like I said, I had no problems, and I am driving it now.

The last time I towed a vehicle I used a tire in the middle, completely eliminated the harsh YANK. Highly recommended.

Awesome idea, I wonder why I didn't think of that.

i towed my NA t-bird back about 10 miles to my house with a broken 1/2 shaft at about 1 in the morning. A cop stopped while i was tying it up and asked what i was doing, told me it was illegal. I asked if i could do it anyway, he said "ummmm...yeah, go for it, just don't tell anyone i told you that!" haha i made it back safely, just went REALLY slowly, like 15-20 the whole way.

Hey guys, sorry I've been away. I actually moved it not long after posting this, then completely forgot about this post. The brakes actually did great. I left the key on to keep the accumulator charged. Long story, though. I started to tow it, got halfway, then one of the tow straps fell off (I have no idea how). Said heck with it, changed the oil to get the coolant out as not to wash a bearing, took off the serp belt so the water pump wouldnt destroy its own bearings, and drove the rest of the way. I wasn't too thrilled with the tow company (I had used them before and always sent them people from my shop) as they charged me ten dollars less before to go twice the distance on a holiday when my ball joint came apart. Oh yeah, got a talking to from Perry township's finest also when I was prepping it to drive (Perry Township is about the size of a shopping mall, I think, don't know why they have cops). The brakes were a little stiffer (no belt=no power steering pump=no brake assist). These things are a beast to steer without assist. I'm wondering if it was actually an intake gasket instead. The engine ran GREAT under boost (I tried not to push it, but these go to positive pressure fast). Also, the front and rear intake seals were RTV instead of the cork, so I think someone has done the manifold gasket. And the intake gaskets literally fell off. I only have one head off so far, but the gasket was fine, no missing pieces or signs of leakage. Hope the other side is the same. Still has the cylinder cross-hatch after 158k. So that's where it sits now. I'll finish tearing it down, send out the heads, and start some porting, probably have it together in a few weeks, thanks to Christmas shopping.

Hey Shane, we definetly need to get together. Nice to know someone else in town who can talk about more than his VTEC Integra GSR-TypeR-GTS- Evo whatever-it-is-now -WRXfgnbvlmxlc . Sorry, fell asleep. I'm up at Sawmill and 161. You?

I am around Rome Hilliard and I-70. I have friends that live around you and I used to work at the Farmers building right by Carmax. I'd be up for helping you out with your head gasket swap. Being unemployeed I have tons of time on my hands lol. Yeah I have dealt with the good 'ol Perry Township police on many occasions before

Sounds good Shane. I have probably an hour left to get the passenger head off, and it will definetly be next week or after before I go back together with it. I work nights so I only really touch it in spurts. We need to find a good place to cruise. All the places I went with my Mustang a few years ago have really slowed down.

You can thank the Columbus police for that. I really dont know any good places to cruise either. We might have to start our own crew and go from there.

That's great so long as you don't allow too much slack in the tow line...running over the tire would really suck.

I used to go to that parking lot over by the Hooters on East Main, but I guess some people started fighting and being obnoxious so Hooters always had the cops there. Then there's the Jeg's down the street from there. I heard it is really good but everytime I went there were only a few old guys hanging around with rusty Novas or 3rd gen firebirds. I have a friend with a Civic SI that's real into the sticker-adds-15-hp racing, I need to talk to him. I like hanging out with the import guys because they can't comprehend torque. I was at a show and did a burnout for a friend with my Mustang. Next thing I know there is a group of kids gatered around that couldn't figure out how the tires lit right up without having to spool up a turbo. I love it, cracks me up.

I have been to all those places before with little results. Noone ever seems to meet up anymore around here. There was a Kroger out on E. Broad that used to be cool to hang out and a Thrift store off Cleveland ave was hot at one point. A few years ago we got into freeway racing for a little bit. Whenever you get a day off we should hang out and check out oneanother's SCs out.
