is there an intercooler out there that can use electronic power or some sort of gas to make the thing constantly cold..even when its not being drivin down the road and even when its 90 outside.........? i was just bored tonight and was daydreaming about my supercoupe and this popped in my peanut. just a crazy thought tho..maybe its actually made maybe its not idk but just dont be to harsh on me :D . Later guys

put some nos on it in a halo pattern and just rig up a switch to let it out through the ic it will keep it plenty cool

Do methanol injection instead, trust me (and thank me later)

Ummm, N20 isn't flammable.

and dont they actually sell kits for N20 IC sprayers? my friend was talkign about getting it for his WRX

yeah n20=$$ to spray on IC..Its silly.

A water mister would work wonders

The energy required to remove the amount of heat generated is so great that to do so would cost more $$$ than it would cost for a highly efficient front mount intercooler, new radiator, and new a/c condensor to deal with the big intercooler in front of everything.

I'm not saying it couldn't be done. I'm just saying it can't be done safely for a reasonable amount of money.

if i'm using n2o to cool things down, i'm not gonna waste it spraying it on the i/c to cool the air charge i'm gonna inject it into the motor to cool the air charge and add some ponies....lol

They do have the type of IC you are talking about..Only problem is it needs recharge time inbetween uses and isnt that cheap..

There is water/air intercoolers out there. Oh and the rare air/ac intercoolers

Selecting an Intercooling System
Both air/air and water/air systems have their own benefits and disadvantages. Air/air systems are generally lighter than water/air, especially when the mass of the water (1kg a litre!) is taken into account. An air/air system is less complex and if something does go wrong (the intercooler develops a leak for example), the engine behaviour will normally change noticeably. This is not the case with water/air, where if a water hose springs a leak or the pump ceases to work it will not be immediately obvious. However, an air/air intercooler uses much longer ducting and it can be very difficult to package a bulky air/air core at the front of the car - and get the ducts to it! Finally, an air/air intercooler is normally cheaper than a water/air system.

A water/air intercooler is very suitable where the engine bay is tight. Getting a couple of flexible water hoses to a front radiator is easy and the heat exchanger core can be made quite compact. A water/air system is very suitable for a road car, with the thermal mass of the water meaning that temperature spikes are absorbed with ease. However, note that if driven hard and then parked, the water within the system will normally become quite warm through underbonnet heat soak. This results in high intake air temperatures after the car is re-started as the hot water takes some time to cool down.

Type of Intercooling - Advantages & Disadvantages
Air/Air
eg Thunderbird SC

Advantages
-Efficient
-Cheap
-cores readily available

Disadvantages
-Longer induction air path
-Packaging of large intercoolers difficult
-Large pipes to and from intercooler required

Water/Air
eg Subaru Liberty RS

Advantages
-Short induction air path
-Easy to package
-Excellent for short power bursts (ie typical road use)

Disadvantages
-Heavier
-More complex
-More expensive
-Heat exchangers harder to source

Instead of N20 use CO2 its much cheaper and legal.

Injecting methanol is the cheapest option IMO....I get the stuff for like 3 bucks a gallon and a gallon of it lasts about 2 tanks of gas and I run a pretty decent sized jet (7gph to support running 33psi)

I gained like...30hp and 50ft-lbs of torque or something like that and that's with my little ricer motor.

i actually started building one of these several years ago only to get half way done with mine and see an identical "new product" in my friends mustang magazine. i heard once that no matter how original an idea you think of, 100 other people thought of it the same time you did. then it's just a race to the patent office....

I couldn't agree with you more. I just wish that I could find that company again. I do remember that they were in Texas though. They cost $1400 for a full kit.
