The M5R2 (stock SC 5 speed trans) calls for ATF in the owners manual. Others have used their own concoctions with good results. Do a search and you'll find all kinds of different opinions on which fluids work best.

I did a search just last week trying to figure out what I shoulD use for mine. Seems a lot of people have been happy using gm-synchromesh manual transmission fluid. It is a partially synthetic formula. I bought 2 quarts of it at the chevy dealer I work at. Costed me like $15 or so. Cars not running right now so I can't give you my own opinion on how it works, but I am pretty confident it will be fine from the posts I read through.

Just finished rebuilding my 5sp and put 3liters of the GM fluid in it. Like the way it shifts now, nice & smooth.
