I took my Annie to a body shop close to me (Mi Car) and they quoted me about 3k for a paint job. I want to get a few other estimates before I go and commit to that. The 3k included repairing some rust under the ground effects (including one rust through spot) and any dents/dings in it. Mike there told me about some other local SC owners that he knows. He couldn't really recall the name, but thinks it was Mike Cates? Does the name sound familiar??

yeah that right, mike cate is mcate on this forum. he knows the guy that painted my car (eddie) but nobody can get a hold of him because mike's been trying. i don't know any other paint shops to give you a reference, 3 grand sounds pretty steep if you ask me. eddie painted my car for 800 bucks and it looks nice but not spectacular.

Mike at MiCar does absolute 1st class work. He's not cheap. He won't cut you any kind of special deal. But he shoots beautiful paint. There's on '06 GTO running around here in Chesapeake that was originally blue, & he painted up with the '69 Judge orange. It looks incredible. He used to paint show Corvettes. For that $3000 he'll shoot your car, then wet sand & buff it out so that there'll be NO orange peel, & a very deep even gloss. And he guarantees his work for life.

I have seen that GTO around here for quite some time. I see it along Kempsville Road here in Chesapeake a lot. Noticed it a while back and wondered where it was done. When I searched the net for an auto body shop around here I saw thier link, and actually drive by there a lot (only like 2 miles from my house). I saw that GTO on the gallery of the site and that is what made me want to stop by there and check them out. Top Notch equipment and employees is what I saw when they gave me a shop tour. I liked some of the cars they were working on and seeing the work under the paint. I'm sure he would do a wonderful job, but having a hard time swallowing the 3k right now. I'm working on putting a new motor in my Annie...It may need a new 5 speed or it needs to be rebuilt, and the suspension bushings are shot all the way around...

I live off Kempsville between Volvo and Grenbrier in Kemp Woods. For you living so close I'm suprised that I have never seen yor SC around.. I'm usually good at pointing them out when I see them... Ask my wife

I talk to eddie about every week. I mentioned to him that Mike wanted another bird painted, but he said he really did have anywhere to do it right now, since he sold his house with the garage/paint booth. He really didnt seem interested either...so i think my boy is getting a little burned out on painting cars...

My car's put away for the winter. I don't have a garage, & the frost oxidizes all the polished aluminum under the hood. Drop by sometime. 1108 Buford Ct in Ashley Woods. I'm usually home in the afternoons, plus I work at Best Buy in the evenings & on weekends. I'm in the appliance or computer departments.
