Hey everyone. My name is Gabriel and I'm new to the whole T-Bird SC Model. I had some problems with my supercharger making a grinding noise at idle. Was getting louder. I decided to park it and take off the charger. I took it off and decided to dismantled it completely. I have purchased another one with low mileage and planning on putting that one on but I decided to try to learn more about the charger by taking it apart. Here are the pics. I know that they sell a rebuild kit and was just wondering if the scars on the cylinder walls will be an issue. It's nice to be part of this forum and hope to hear what responds I get on this situation.

From what I see itís not too bad from wear and tear on the inside. I would think it would be from dust and dirt. Most of the time a noise that you described is from a worn coupler or possibly a bearing going bad. You have it apart so a rebuild is not that bad to do.

thanks, I just wanted to get advice from different people. I'm a turbo man and this is the first supercharged car that I've own.

The scoring in the case is normal. Like Flip said, it is most likely due to small bits of dirt. Some of the marks may also be due to the rotors making contact with the case at high RPMs.

The grinding noise at idle was probibly a worn plastic coupler. The supercharger rebuild parts are available from several sources. I purchased my coupler, snout bearings, and snout seal from Texas T-bird but he hasn't been heard from for several months now. I purchased the case bearings from a local source.

Good luck

The grinding noise could be the rear case bearings.

Browsing the boards, I found that this supercharger was the one off my old 90 SC... seems Max sold it to him and he has since then sold it.... Funny to see although I wonder where it is now... http://www.sccoa.com/forums/showthread.php?p=624324#post624324

How on earth did you stumble across this? We were wondering what happened to Max and your old SC.

I'm still around, but I sold the sc a while back; with going to school and work it just wasn't the right vehicle for me at the time. Maybe in the near future I'll pick up another SC but only as a project vehicle.
