why would smoke come from dip stick

Why would you get rid of your PVC? its there to evacuate the crankcase pressure. Blowby is pressure getting past either your piston rings or Valve guides. To fix it, you need to figure out which is the problem. If its the guides, the heads need to be removed and taken to a shop and have new guides put in. If its the rings, I have heard of new rings being put in while engine is in the car, just not sure if it can be done in a Bird. At which time you may want to go through the engine and make sure its all up to snuff. First, you need to figure out for sure what the problem is.

PCV or positive crankcase ventilation is an absolute must it will cause smoke to come out where it isnt supposed to. Also the additional pressure caused by eliminating the PVC valve will cause seals to blow and oil leaks from all sorts of places. If you look at a race car they run 2 really big breathers on the top of the valve covers and an evacuation system hooked to the exhaust.Hook the PCV valve back up and see if the smoke goes away if it does problem solved :) if not it is rebuild time.:(
