I've just purchased a oil temp gauge and a volt meter. I'm not to sure how or where the oil temp is going to go in the oil system. I'm not to keen on opening the box, then deciding that I'm not going use it. The gauge range is from 140-280F*. Is it not 170-180 for optimum range? Bill do you still have the oil pressure conversion part, are you going to use it? If not I'd be interested in it.
I'm looking to do this in my driveway, so mybe I couldget some help from a few guys who are good with electrical, wiring. I'm hoping to do my intercooler fan, low speed fan and the two gauges all at once. Probable in two weeks. Les fuel pump might be good to do then also, I couild get Scott to help out with that one I think.
Any input on this would be awsome guys.

Ryan,
The conversion part is just a different, yet much larger, old Mustang oil sending unit. They are readily available from Ed. Sean and I both have ours with hopes to install them....one day.
Can you stop by with that guage on Saturday? I'd like to see it. You may be able to read oil temp from the sensor hole in the oil pan, that is, if you don't care about your "low oil" VMM function, which I wouldn't trust anyway.

VMM, thats the little info panel, with door ajar, firm ride, coolant low light, yeah, it's going to leaving my car one day, so that may just be a good starting piont. I'll pack in the trunk for ya. I'll try to make it out on wed.

Somethings seems wrong here.

Mike,
Both. Ryan would like to do the upgrade to the better oil pressure sending unit, as your technical article outlines. He's also looking to install an engine oil temperature gauge in a two gauge pod on his A-pillar.
Cheers,
Sean

Have you bought the stuff already. Personally, I 'd rather have real oil pressure and tranny temperature.

Sean, thanks for clearing that up.
Mike, I didn't think of tranny temp. I'll do that next. I think I have a way to get 3 gauges in my car without looking rice. How long was it to do the oil pressure conversion?

It was more of a fiddley farty thing getting the oil pipe at exactly the right angle & taking the instrument cluster apart to solder the bypass wire in place.

Hi,
Where can I find that article regarding the conversion of the in-dash oil pressure gauge?
Jim.

Oh...forgot to ask...what's a new oil sender unit worth? They list several in the article:
Standard Motor Products: PS-60
Echlin: OP6091
Motorcraft: SW-1547-B, E4ZZ-9278-A
Which one is preferrable?
Jim.

Yeah, which one for the '95?

It's not too bad. Took me a while to figure out where the resistor was (either behind the cluster or upstream on the sender harness). It turned out to be a few inches up from the sender itself (glued in under some heat shrink).
I used the motocraft sender (~20$ CAD) and with a lot of effort managed to adjust the pipe coming from the block to get everything to line up without removing too much stuff (idler pulley and the serpentine belt I tihnk). Small hands really help out here.
The way the gauge behaves now is cool. You can actually tell if you have oil pressure or not.

Some of the old girls, 89-90's apparently have that resistor located in the sender wire to the unit like Darrels did. Lucky if you have one like that then you don't have to go playing around with the dash stuff.

I found it easier to pull the cluster (after doin it a couple times to install my gauges I found it to be quite easy) vs shaving that wire looking for the resistor. It's in a really bad spot and unless you wanna take the entire accessory bracket off, be prepared to slice a finger or two dicing that wire ;)
On the grand scale of things, it's no big deal though.
ciao
