Ok i need some parts that ford discontinued. I need the 22mm nylon nuts that are on the front strut rods and i need the bolts that connect the rear lower control arms to the frame. Where can i get these? or does anyone have any laying around?

New front shocks come with the nut. Otherwise find out the thread size and pitch and go to a hardware or auto parts store and buy some nylon lock nuts in that size. I'm not sure what the lower c-arm bolts are but I'm sure someone parting out a car can probably hook you up. Look in the classified for cars being parted out and email the owner.

i was just thinking about it hardware stores dont usually carry a 30mm nylon lock nut around as far as i know. and its more like 30mm than 22mm.

I'd be able to get you the pitch of the nuts or maybe send you my old ones, but I haven't received my new shocks yet. Apparently the rears were on back order from the manufacturer and I'm hoping they all arrive this week.

I think he's talking about the large nuts on the front end of the strut rods, where they attach to the subframe. Those would not be included with new shocks!!

Try a local hardware store. Also see if you have a fastener specialty store in your area. I've got a hardware place here that I could pretty much get anything that I need, chances are you've got one there and just don't know about it.

well i can get any size nut, bolt, anything i want but i dont remember the exact sizes since i pretty much destroyed them to get them off. if anyone has sizes that would work also. or if they have any extra laying around they dont need that will work too.

Post up in the "wanted" section. Or you could try PM'ing racecougar, he probably has some.

idk if i want to mess with it how rusty is it underneath? the reason mine were such a pita to get out is because the metal sleeve that is in the center of the bushing rusted to the bolts.

It has 73K miles but it's kind of rusty underneath.

just thinking about this cause it was brought to my attention...... so i have in my hand the nut from the car 30mm 2.5 thread pitch. i ordered the same thing but from a completly different source. is there a chance, for some very odd reason the inside diameters of the two could be different?

it doesnt seem logical why ford would have done that (used anything else other than a standared 30mm nut) but you all know how that goes.

just something that someone brought to my attention any input?

I was gonna say, http://www.mcmaster.com/ McMaster-Carr is a great source for large metric bolts and nuts. Hardware stores mark up metric double the standard part price.

Got any update on the nuts you bought? Did they work?

I would NOT use SS nuts or bolts. They are not of sufficent Grade as to not break. TRW/Moog Sold the Camber Kits that included the bolts and nuts used to attach the front inner lower control arm to the frame last I saw. Advance should be able to get them.

That's true, Moog does sell the front camber kits. However, he is looking for hardware for the front strut rods and rear LCAs.

One note on Stainless steel is that not all stainless is weak. Anything from a hardware store is likely not strength graded. But you can get strong stainless from folks that serve the aerospace industry. ARP stainless is also as strong as if not stronger than Grade 8 rated bolts with a tensile strength of 170,000 psi.

Note that stronger doesn't mean better, as with tensile strength comes brittleness. It depends on the application. I would try and stick with the same strength bolts in a suspension or braking system. In some applications you need the bolt to have some give to it.

only 6 dealerships in the country have the (front or back dont remember) bolts i got a list. and the as far as the nuts go these arent your reagular harware store nuts. better grade stainless so they will not rust and fuse its self to the strut like the old ones did. i will tell you guys when they break.
