Haha...i stole shane's thread title, is it possible to change the crank in my car in two days...this seems scarily similar to shanes thread i know, but when we actually get to working on it, we'll have approx two days to compete it. this whole two day thing is killing me. lol

It took me two days with air tools and a garage to pull the engine out of my SC and dissasemble it... actualy more like 2 1/2 days so i'd say probably not....

I dont see why not. I have had that motor torn down to the basic longblock before twice so its not like most the bolts are going to be on really tight. Plus its clean as hell under that hood :D

As long as we can actually get the car to the garage I dont see why not.

If you are very familiar and don't break any bolts you could do it in a day assuming you had a known good crank, bearing set, and BHJ balancer. Start at like 6:30 am.

Remove hood
drain coolant and oil
Remove accessories
remove wiring harnesses
remove SC, tubing, IC
yank accessory brackets
disconnect or hang fuel rail over fender
unbolt down tubes from exhaust manifold
I'd disconnect the drive shaft in the front, maybe lower the tank a litte
remove trans crossmember, loose motor mounts
lift engine and trans out of car.

Seperate

Bolt engine on stand turn upside down
remove oil pan, scrape gasket maker off
remove balancer, loosen rod caps, put them in proper order in a box
remove main caps, remove rear main seal, remove timing cover, remove chain
remove crank, press in new bearings into block and rods, put in new crank
reinstall caps, torque to spec, reinstall timing chain and cover with new gasket, reinstall oil pan with gasket maker, install rear main seal.
Let it sit for about hour or two for oil pan gasket to dry

Heat up and install BHJ balancer, then flip engine over and hook it to cherry picker, remove from stand, lower it, hook up trans again, hoist it, reinstall into car, put everything else back on.....

You'd need:

new crank or known good crank
main bearings
rod bearings
oil pan gasket maker
rear main seal
timing cover gasket
water pump gasket
BHJ balancer DO NOT USE OLD BALANCER
I'd recommend new solid motor and trans mounts
3 12 packs of Bud Light
2 large pizza's
and 1-2 buddies to help you drink beer and eat pizza, I mean help you work on the car and their reward is beer and pizza.

It helps is all 3 guys are SC knowledgeable. My friend Adam and I could have an SC engine and AOD out of his 35th and torn down in a day. We started one day around 5:00 after work and by like 10:00 pm the block was on a stand torn down ready to go to the machine shop the next morning. So it can be done. We also had his dad's garage full of air tools, lifts, etc....

At my house with my stuff it might take longer. I have a smaller compressor, not as tall of a roof in the garage, and I don't have a cherry picker just an engine stand.

I am thinking it could be done if you have the help. I have pulled the engine out of my wifes SC and had it apart in a matter of a couple hours... I have a garage and also Air Tools to help me with this, along with a father-in-law that likes to get in on the action. But as everyone knows it takes much longer to put things back and do it right.
