i am considering getting rid of my sc so that i can get a truck. the problem is that i just spent a lot of money on it and now i found another problem. if you do a search for my posts, you can see a lot of what i've done.
the problem: i need to part it out to make any money back from the money spent on parts, but don't have the time or place to do so. i dropped the cluster and broke the odometer for the second time. i just feel the need to disclose that up front.
i just had the auto transmission rebuilt ($1500 and only 40 or so miles on it.), the rear end rebuilt with 3.73s($have to find receipt, has around 3k miles), 4 new cooper zeon z rated tires (2 with around 3k miles, the other two with about 30 miles on them), a brand new set of headlights still in the box (the header panel is cracked - around $100), 4 new sway bar links ($50 each), eibach lowering springs (older now), new water pump (5k miles), new oil pan, new legal limit mirror tint (all windows), new windshield (5 miles), new all aluminum radiator (not the crappy half plastic one), new battery, and a few other things i can't remember off the top of my head.
known problems:
--no horn - probably due to alarm which is an ancient "pursuit" alarm.
--fan fuses have gotten hot - a common problem with 94 and 95's i guess. remedied by an external fan controller, look in these forums for pusher or puller fan. tried to fix with existing equipment, didn't work very well.
--bad paint on the roof - previous owner was an idiot and used crap paint ON THE ROOF ONLY!!!the rest of the paint is old, but still glossy.
--header panel cracked - causes headlights to aim downward (remedied with a header panel for $100, i already have new headlight assemblies with new bright blue lights new in box. not to mention the bright whites that are already in it.
--alarm - makes the dashlights stay off until the alarm is triggered (the fix, take it to best buy, gut the alarm, and install a new one). this problem was why i took the cluster out.
--interior - not the best. drivers seat has been used much more and is obvious. drivers kick panel broken because of the alarm being scrammed in there, instrument cluster trim broken. other little clips broken in various places. back seats are crap. seating part is ok, but the car was in florida for 100k miles or so with no window tint, so the back seat leather is brittle on the top.
--instrument cluster - i'm a big clumsy oaf that breaks things. i fixed it once, broke it again. all of these problems happened right after the odometer broke, so it has sat for a very very long time. odometer says 121k, actual is about 130k. it has been sitting for a couple years now, and i am tired of putting parts on it.
that's what i know. i'm working on pics. i live in manchester nh. don't get me wrong, i LOVE my car, but i need something newer that doesn't require custom parts for everything. i don't have a place for a project. it runs like a bat out of hell. too bad i haven't been able to test out the new tranny, but the rear end with 3.73's makes it a totally different car. the gears evened gas mileage out to 18/18, so it doesn't matter where you drive it. i have spent a lot on the drive train, but little on cosmetics or interior. i have a dealership looking for a buyer so i can get a truck, but i thought i would mention it on here to see what you all thought. i guess i am trying to sell a tranny, rear end, tires, and a decent looking shell. for someone with a garage and has had a working car in the last year, this would be easy to fix. i hate to sell it for parts, but either way, i can't take it apart.
i would even consider selling the subs in the back. especially since they are almost impossible to get out. they are older, jl audio (w3's i think) in a custom made 3 way box for a thunderbird. sealed and solid. i almost killed myself putting them in because of how big the box is. it's made with what feels like 3/4" or 1" wood. i would like to keep them, but whats the point since they are designed for a tbird. they were in my friends sc (which didn't have a moon roof) and they would flex the ceiling. sorry, but i am keeping the amps. the stereo is an older alpine cd player.
