I finally got around to doing some maintenance on the bird today. It started with a trip to Walmart to get the 5 qt jug of Mobil 1 since it used to be cheaper than Oreilly's. Then decide to stop by the local Ford dealership for the SC fluid. The parts guy says we don't stock it. Think oh well I will order it online. I then head on to Oreilly's to get a Motorcraft fuel filter, Motorcraft PCV, Motorcraft oil filter and pick up the Moog upper strut mounts I had ordered. Turns out one of the mounts is missing the hardware and the fuel filter and the only PCV they carry which is not a motorcraft are at the warehouse. No big deal the warehouse is semi on the way home. I also notice while walking to get some brake parts cleaner that the Mobil 1 is cheaper at Oreilly's. The wife calls for lunch and I meet her at the BBQ place. On the way to the warehouse I stop by Advance to check and see if the have a Motorcraft PCV. They have only 1 PCV, but it is not Motorcraft so I head on to the warehouse. I get to the warehouse only to find out the only PCV valve they have is the wrong part put in the right bin. Oh well I figure I will run back by Advance and pick up the one they have. I decide to call one other dealership that is a SVT/Roush dealer, surely they must have the SC oil. I call them and they verify they have it in stock. This trip to the Ford dealer is a 40 mile round trip. I get to the dealership and pick up the fluid and head out thinking I got a good deal. I also had him verify I had the right fuel filter, and they also had no PCV valve. When I notice it is only 4 ounces, I call the wife and have her look up the qty. Yep she verifies I need 8 ounces total by reading the forum. I turn around and go back to the dealership to get another 4 ounces. Turns out they do not have any more and can't get it until Monday. Oh well, Monday it is before I can change the SC fluid. The parts guy was very cool about the mix up, and arranges for me to pick up the SC oil at the dealership by my work Monday. On the way home I stop at Advance to get the PCV valve they have. I finally get home and get changed to start working on the car. I decide to do the fuel filter first. The old one comes off very easy. I then write todays date on the new fuel filter along with the word installed. I then proceed to install it. It won't go in on the filtered side, the line is to big, now remember the Ford dealership verified it was the right one. I jump in the truck to go to Oreilly's by the house with a big ~~~. After doing some research it turns out mine my 91 was built 11/90 so it needs the fuel filter for a 90 instead of a 91 but no note in the system telling that. You guessed right to late in the day to pick up the correct one from the warehouse, and not going to use generic. I go ahead and get a return on the wrong one and deicde to try Autozone and Advance. I stop by Autozone and all they have is generic. I then head to Advance and they at least have a Purolator fuel filter in stock. I finally get home and get everything installed, man what a long day.
