View Full Version : Need to know Bellhousing bolt length

For an AOD, but I imagine the housing bolts are the same length regardless of tranny. 10x1.50x??mm

The lengths are different, depending on where they are being installed. I know there are at least 2 different lengths. Unfortunately, I do not know the exact lengths.

I see them as 55 mm long in the Ford parts catalogue.

Ed, did you check all of them? I know there are at least 2 lengths as one of the threaded holes isn't a through hole. I just removed / reinstalled my tranny for about the 20th time, I can't be imagining it.

Yep a couple are shorter, just don't recall how many. I have an account with Ford so I called them. They said two bolts exist... one is 55mm and the other is 2.25". So, these bolts' length differ by only .075". I thought the difference was greater than that. Anyhow, I am guessing that I need 4 long and two short, IIRC. Good thing I get 25% off b/c I have a hard time buying hardware from Ford as it is so pricey. Yesterday I bought two sets of 'TC to flexplate' nuts and a set of 6 'flexplate to crank' bolts. :cool:

Yes, it shows 6 of the same number ... the only other thing showing is a listing which would apply to the 5.0L, it's 7/16-14 x 2-1/4". Ford's hardware listings are accurate maybe 50% of the time ... and of the 50% that have a correct listing, 50% aren't available. :p

Ok, it's driving me crazy. What about the bolts that connect the bell housing to the oil pan? ....don't make me get under my car again :)

Not to mention the bolt holding the tranny tube. This is one of the shorter ones. For the sake of the club Kurt get under your car. :D

They are all the same length except the three that bolt to the oil pan. Those are probably about 35mm. If you have other length bolts it's not Ford's fault. :p
