Hey I was talking to some one th other day about SC's and they sayed there were a few limited editions made in 1990 that werent 35th editions. now it seems far fetched but then again im new to Tbirds and the sc world. any one know anything about this?

I've never heard of them, but that doesn't make it not so. There were a few "Bill Elliot Edition" thunderbirds made, but I believe those had the 5.0 in them. They did have the supercoupe ground effects, if I remember correctly. I just don't remember what year(s) it was made.

Sounds like BS to me. Possibly some local dealer or dealer group made some of thier own 'LIMITED EDITION' models with a few decals and bits of trim, but that does not make it an 'official' package.
Everyone has thier own opinion, but to me it is not an official package unless it came from the manufacturer that way...dealer-modified cars are no different than owner modified cars to me.

What are your thoughts on "Yenko's"?

Anything to get a few extra bucks or sell a few extra cars... I've seen plenty of THOSE kinds of "limited edition" thunderbirds. I guess whenever I see one I think - "Base model, they're everywhere..." Dealership modifications always seem so cheesy to me...

As far as Yenkos go they are not exclusively modified dealer cars. They were all copo[central office production order] cars that were exclusive to certain dealers and further modified by them. By far way more than decal packages. These by far are more rare than any of our cars.

something about it having extra stuff like drop down suspention on the firm ride control and a few small power adders and something about very few made like 134 or something. still far fetched apperently last owner on my sc claims its some sort of limited edition but Im not so shure. if it was why would she have traded me it for my 97 explorer? yet she claims seaview chevy would give 11.5 trade in...

I think that those NASCAR edition ones were actually a dealer/Ford item. My mom worked in the parts department of the local Ford dealer (Purvis Ford in Frdereicksburg, VA) when some of those came out. She was a Davey Allison fan, and I remember her looking at the sticker kit when it came into thier department for a customer. She was considering buying the kit for her '88 T-bird 5.0 (Which she still has in her yard under a Ford car cover...driven very little) I can remember riding to MI in the back of that car several times. I want to say it got in the high 20's MPG if I remember correctly... But now that I have wandered off topic....

Bill Elliott's Ford dealership had some "Bill Elliott" special editions in the early 90's.

I worked for Ford back in the 80s, and we 'assisted' many dealer-groups in putting together 'regional packages' to spur sales along in thier districts.
By assistenace, I mean we either approved or diss-approved thier package concepts, which usually amounted to nothing more than decal and trim extras. The trim and decals were all locally sourced by the dealer-groups and they simplty ordered cars and applied thier custom stuff to them.
Almost never was a mechanical modification approved, for safety, emission and liabilty reasons.
One exception was the 'Big Foot' package put on F-250s and Rangers by the FDNY group (Ford Dealers of Western New York) back in 1989.
Stock medium blue F-250 4X4 and Ranger 4X4 trucks (regular cabs) were ordered from the factory.
At the converting dealer, theses things were added:
3" (or so, I can't exactly remember) lift kit
HUGE wheels and tires
Huge front chrome winch-bumper w/ winch
huge chrome rear bumper
power rear window (!)
Dual-tube Chrome roll bar with lights
Front chrome brush bar with lights
Tonneau cover with 'Big Foot' emblem embroidered
Chrome bed rails
Chrome tubular step rails
Chrome headlight and taillight cages
...and gigantic, reflective, sparkly 'Big Foot' decals on each side.

They all sold releatively quickly, and then every one was recalled to remove the 'illegal' modifications.
We had to remove the bumpers, wheels/tires, off road lights and replace everything with stock stuff.
Hugely expensive and quite a fiasco. The owners had to bring thier trucks into a participating dealer, have everything removed and sign a document to that effect. They were allowed to take everything with them though, and then they just had to have it all reinstalled off location.
If they refused the recall, their warranties were cancelled, even if they purchased an extended one (which most people did in those days).

I'm sure this happened more than once, and Ford wisely just doesn't participate in dealer mods much anymore.

As for Yenkos; those were mostly COPO cars, as mentioned before, so they are factory-authorized cars. To me that makes them official.

The 'Elliot' T-Birds are not anything special to me, simply because it had nothing to do with Ford. But i would still like to have one!

I wouldn't mind having a Chevy like that.
