Cam, DIS, or both...

So my '89 is starting to have cold idling and starting (warm and cold) issues. There is no tach reading whenever I first start the car. Once the car warms up, the car runs like a champ and idles fine. The tach will randomly start to work after driving a mile or so.

No tach leads me to think the DIS is the culprit. I'm going to put my '94s cam sensor on tonight to test it. Any other ideas or suggestions?

Edit - The up-shift light is not on while cranking. Plugs and wires are new.

If you don't think that it is the cam sensor then the only other culprit is the DIS. Try swapping that out and see if that isn't the problem.

Also, I think the small black wire with a gray connector, by the coil pack, is the lead for the tach. If I remember correctly. If so, check for continuity, in a couple of places that might lead to an intermittent connection.

That came out wrong. I was going to swap out the 94's cam sensor and see what that does.

No tach has me think DIS. Hard starting has me think cam sensor. I just hope both didn't decide to crap out at the same time.
