My transmission (or something) was whinning when I was driving, and lately it has been shifting late. I got on the expressway, and all of a sudden it would not shift at all. I was stuck in 1st gear and had to drive off home at 35mph. What could the problem be? Why is my bird not shifting????

Thanks for the help!

What year bird are we talking about here? I'm assuming you have an automatic, Am I right?

check the TV cable at the throttle body, they are notorious for popping off. You can only drive for a few miles before it burns up the trans. Sounds lik the trans is done. Make sure you check the converter when you pull the trans. Could also be the problem. But sounds like the trans is shot. Is the fluid burnt?

before you pull the whole trans out. check your shift solenoids.
can't tell you how, but if they are screwed up it could do it. like was said, is your fluid burned?? have you tried toggling you O/D button. I don't know if it will actually do anything at low speeds but maybe it'll get a solenoid to click and work or something.
