Stock Radio CD ready. Still looking, must be 89. I understand the 89 radio is different with silver buttons. Could be wrong however.
Thanks

Can anyone comment on the 89 radio? Is it different? The cd player in my 89 does have the silver buttons.

From my research, production 89's had black buttons. The dealership sales brochure has audio system photos showing the radio with silver buttons, but mentioned in a footnote something to the effect that the silver buttons may be a mid-year introduction. I don't believe they ever happened.
That said, the AWD SC has a radio with silver buttons. It may have been a vendor prototype (radio) that got out. Or, the vendor had production problems early and switched to black buttons. That car's VIN ends in a verrrrrryyy low sequence number; like "100202" or something like that. Low 200's for sure; Duffy could confirm the exact VIN and build date.
Check with Paul Protos for a radio. He refurbishes them to better-than-new condition for a very reasonable price. He can rebuild yours, or furnish you with a rebuilt unit. Excellent quality, very professional person to work with. Check out his feedback. I've had him do three for me and they are excellent.
Here's Paul's information from the feedback forum:

TXSC is correct.
ALL "production" 1989-1993 Thunderbird & Cougar Premium Sound/JBL radios had black buttons. Only the 1989 and very early 1990 satellite CD Players had silver buttons...after that, all the way through 1993, they were black to match the radios.
The silver buttoned radio that is in the prototype AWD car is indeed an oddball. I've never seen another except in pre-introduction sales literature.
I even have an early development prototype unit that came from Ford's electronics lab and it has black buttons. The silver buttoned AWD radio may just be unique.
It does seem that the original intention for 1989 was to use radios with silver buttons to match the CD Players, HVAC Controls, and other 1989 specific silver trim.
These radios were first introduced and used in 1988 for Lincoln, Full Size Ford, and Taurus/Sable cars. Even in these cars, the radios had black buttons.
