The top bolt was very hard for me to remove. you may want
to use anti-seaze on threads went reinstalling.

I had found and used the proper wrench.( a worn out old wrench 1/2"
i think not sure). My american and metic wrenchs would not fit good
enough, not to round the bolt off.

I have read around here a few times that other had
troubles rounding off the top bolts head.Finding the right wrench size
with the proper points in the box-end wrench that must be used.
(forgot the points on the wrench.)The the top bolt can be rounded
of very easy. So take your time to make sure your wrench will fit .

I don't remember for sure but I think I had to remove the exhaust
down tube,to get at this top starter bolt. But there was room to
install and remove starter with down tube in place. If you
have smaller hands than I do.

Autozone has one for 100 bux with the re-surfaced gear. And 130 for a new one.
I got the 130 after going tru 4 of the 100 dollars ones. Buy it ended up being the flywheel.
Id get the 100 bux one it has lifetime warranty.

If your starter bolts head size turns out to be like my 90 SCbird had.
I replace mine with two new bolts . And I am glad I did after all the
trans swaps I had to do.

Don't know what brand starter would be best.

I used a ratcheting wrench to get the top bolt out. I remember it being a pain.

I have had good luck with the Auto Zone Duralast starters. Not all have, but I have not had a bad one yet. It seems to be a dice roll with them though but the lifetime warranty is a blessing.

get a hi power one.

You can get them from Summit or Jeg's. Both have starters that will turn over the badest engines out there, even when they are hot. I know I have gone to these starters and they start by stroker engines even when they are heat soaked to the max.
If that is too much $$ then go with a "GOOD" local rebuilder that you can trust. If that is not an option in your area, then go with "OEM" it comes with a warrenty........Rich
