I am in desparate need of a new T-56 Transmission for my '00 Mustang GT. I would like to trade the tranny from my Supercoupe, and it would be a really good trade for any of the Mustang guys IF i knew what it would or wouldn't fit in Mustang world. Would it bolt up to the 302, 4.6L, or 5.4L???

I am positive it will bolt up to a 302 BUT I think the tailshaft is a different length so they would need a different driveshaft. Maybe someone else will chime in to clarify.

302 and 3.8 v6

Now Frank you can get a t56 much cheaper then that AOD is worth.

Someone was looking to sell one on listangs.com or smallblockposse.com. I cant recall. Not only that but someone was also selling a 5 speed 94 or 95 smashed a bit for 1000 over on one of those sites as well.

BTW good luick getting those transmissiosn to last:O)..Best getting it rebuilt for around 500 or so

I have weighed all the options on this Damon. Unfortunately a stock 5 speed for my '00 stang is not capable holding up to the torque my car is putting down, so it broke down BIG TIME. I spent $900 rebuilding it, and it busted AGAIN. I have been told that I will need to upgrade to either a Mustang Cobra T-56, or go with a TKO 500 / TKO 600 in order to hold the twin turbo's.
With only 8pds of boost I am making about 425 RWHP and 500lbs of torque. This is also without so much as dyno-tuning the car (Diablo Chip).
Hell, if you know of someone selling a tranny from an '03-'04 Cobra let me be the first to know. The Art Carr I have in my T-Bird is still fairly new.

Will let you know. You can rebuil that 5 speed NICE with hardened gears and whatnot...The t56 is nice but still has a limit to its abuse:O)

Glad to see stang running well

Hehe! I wish the stang was running well. It has sit for three months since I started having these tranny woes.:(

I would rather go ahead and step up to the T-56. That extra highway gear would be S W E E T!!!:)
Good to hear from ya Damon!

That mustang runs like a raped ape man. I have yet to take it to a track, but my friends swear it to be an mid 11 second car after we totally destroyed a local WS6 Trans am with a 110 shot of NOS.;)

I'm not a pro, but I think ... The trans should bolt up to all the Fox Mustangs with a 3.8 or 302. I am almost positive that the tailshaft is the same length as ours. The AOD will also fit Mercury Grand Marquis and Ford Crown Victorias, except for the police models, which do have a longer tailshaft. However, in all these applications, the shift lever needs to be swapped or modified. (One version points up, one version points down.)

OK, maybe I was wrong then.

FYI, I am using an AOD from a 1989 Grand Marquis in my Thunderbird. It fit fine, after the lever swap.

when i got my art carr aod, my driveshaft was too long and would not fit. I called art carr and they said they messed up and put the mustang tailsaft on it. so for their mistake they paid for my inland empire 3.5" aliminum driveshaft.

Okay ... so far, we have received confirmation that the Mustang Transmission is shorter (superbirdx), longer (Kevin), and the same size (me).

Now I'm a little confused. :p

Mustang transmissions are the same length as SC's. Crown vic, town cars and trucks were longer.
