Refreshing a SC short block

I won't call it a complete rebuild of the short block but lets say you have a SC short block on a engine stand with unknown miles and unknown history. Now you wanted to make the short block usable again. What would you check and what would you do to freshen the block up? Change all the seals and bearing? Clean everything up?

Looking for tips...

The most beneficial way will be to check the roundness of the cylinder. If the cylinder is still within spec, then I would just have it honed, sand blast the pistons, then re-ring them. Rods would all have to be inspected for roundness as well. They may need resized.

Make sure the mains are still in good shape. If they get too much heat then they become egg shaped and need resized. The crank must have no scratches or physical damage to it. It too has to be within spec to obtain the correct amount of clearance. .002" on the rods and .002"-.0025" on the mains.

Other than that, new rod, main, and cam bearings.
