What size are those, Dave, and are they straight slicks? We just got a set of 28x10x16 Hoosier Drags to try on my dads marauder. We were using 28x11.5x16 MT ET Streets. I'll let ya know if they work better than the MT's. Dad's plannin on testing them tonight.

Looks like Mike Irving's car....I think he dropped it off at Dave's immediately after the Shootout for the "make it as powerful as Ira's car" treatment.

Yes, those are the tires. I also scored a set of 16x8 Cobra R's to put them on. I'm going to see if I can get 1/4" off the mounting pads to make them a more perfect fit. As it sits they'll need the fenders rolled for safety.
My experience going from ET Streets is that it made a big difference but my ET Streets might have been old too so who knows.

There should be a pretty big difference going to a full drag slick. It must changes the way the car launches and probably the way it feels or handles at speed I would imagine.

Ricardo,
I'm not even going to try and match Ira's dyno numbers, but the longtube headers and larger exhaust system I'm doing within the next couple months will probably be worth a little more power. Not that it really matters, but I'd like to be pulling around 450 rwhp and think that is possible with better exhaust, more boost and some additional tuning. It's already pulling 425-435 depending on the dyno and the weather, so I'm not far off.
I have a hard enough time keeping it out of the ditches with an automatic...with a 5 speed I'd most likely end up wrecking it.

Well I will say that it has been a challenge on occassion. The window for messing with the radio has definitely gotten smaller. But what a wonderful problem to have :D
No, my issue is trying to close the gap a little on David and Anthony and Dan and Tim and everyone else up there and try to get all that power to the ground! Spinning for 300' sounds cool and will turn heads, but it doesn't get you anywhere fast.

Its easier with a stick to control. Just put the clutch in when things start to get out of hand. With an auto you probably have a harder time, so if you are doing good right now its better with the stick. But why go slower ;)
I think you have similar HP at the crank so Screw the dyno charts. Plus you still have NAWSSSS. :D Only problem is you cant go 160mph JK.

True...I max out at around 135-140 mph in 3rd gear. That's plenty fast for me. Come to think of it, I don't recall ever going faster than 120 unless I was on the track.

Well the Hoosiers worked awesome at the track last night. No traction problems at all. Pulled its best 60's to date in 30* warmer weather, but we did put more boost to it and the tires put it to the ground. Did not have to smoke the tires alot either... with the MT's we had to heat them up alot and they only lasted 4 months with 10-15 passes a month.
The car was pullin 1.64 60's and ran within .008 between the 4 runs all with the same hundreth #. To bad it was only a T&T. Car weighs 4200#'s with driver.
Ricardo. Summit has the hoosiers for about 183 shipped each.

Most people do run 15's. I wanted to run 16's.
Tom, I think to be safe the wells should be rolled. This should be standard safety practice for any car that is drag raced with big slicks and yes, the car is lowered. These tires measure 10" actual tread width and just over 11" total width mounted on an 8" rim. That would be like a 285/55/16. I rolled the fenders to run my 285/40/17's on the street and I think most anyone else running 285's or bigger has either rolled the fenders or deals with rubbing from time to time. Back in the day I used to have 255/50/16's on a 9.5" wheel and even they rubbed on occasion. On these wheels you can't cut anything off the back side of the wheel, there just isn't enough material there.

I run these on stock SC wheels and they fit fine without rubbing. If I were doing it again, I'd either get the 26x10.5x16 or a 27 tall tire. You might have trouble finding a tire shop to mount those, since technically the stock SC wheel isn't wide enough for the tire. The contact patch between the 10.5 and 11.5 tires on a stock SC wheel is almost identical since the outer edges of the 11.5 don't make contact with the pavement.

Yes we use tubes in the tires. Drilled the wheel and bolted the beads. They are mounted on mustang 16x7.5 wheels the tires are alittle sqeezed. The tire just sitting on the floor unmounted the beads measured 9" wide. We gonna look for some wider wheels or gt the ones we have widened.
Ira, you have more tire options with a 15" wheel.

I can dismount and mount bias ply slicks in 30 to 45 minutes each. Its pretty easy with the soft side wall. All you need is a couple pry bars(tire spoons would prolly be better) and some spray silicone. So if anyone was thinkin about doin it themselves, it can be done fairly easy.

Yes...I did at one time. When I started using nitrous I sold them and bought a used set M/T ET Drags 26 x 10.5 x 15 on LX wheels for better traction. They are pretty much worn out now and won't bite on a track like Dayton with either of my cars.
I'm looking to upgrade to a new set of 28" slicks before spring.

summit sells a template. and screw kit. Its easy, I just put eight holes on each side of the wheel.
takes alittle eyeballing or you could use a ruler or something like that. just center the template then take one of them spring loaded center punches and mark your holes. Remove the template it just lays on the wheel. choose proper size drill bit, I used one just smaller than the screws, drill your holes. You can do it with or without the tires mounted. If they're mounted becareful not to go thru the tires. then you're ready to put the screws in. I did it with a rachet first then after the first time i use an electric drill to put the screws in and out.
Probably the toughest thing to do is widening the valvestem hole for the tubes. I use a unibit to to get the right hole for the tube stem then used a dremel to widen the outer hole so the stem retaining nut could reach the stem threads.
I'll take a pic and post it tomorrow.

That color on that SC is neat I run Hoosiers drag slicks 28.0/10.0-15 on 95 LX tbird wheels. My car is lowerd 2" they fit nice only had to roll back the top fender inside lip. We found that the Cobra R wheels weigh more than the stock tbird wheels there pretty light with the Hoosiers. I am now having a set of racing wheels made by Monocoque the lightest aluminum racing wheels made hope to have them soon
Thanks to XR7 Dave we now have our top end control problem fixed darting back and forth in the top end lights at 125mph gets your attention quick. Hoosier's seam to be the best drag slick's we have used so far I might try a set of Goodyear's soon

I've tried many tires. Goodyear's are just heavy slugs. Sure, you'll hook and still run a tenth slow. Hoosier's grow like crazy, weak sidewalls, and a high collapse rate. The only tire's that Hoosier has that are good are their slick radials.
MT's bias ply's fit in the middle of Goodyear's and Hoosier's. They are still flimsy, but not as bad as the Hoosier's or as heavy as Goodyear's.
I plan on running either a 28" tire with 2.73's or 30" tire's with 3.08's. The smaller tire you can use the faster your car will be. Rotating weight is a big part of the equation.
