View Full Version : What I learned at the track today

#1 The SCP airbox was not a restriction on my motor and I ran identical times with and without.
#2 Going to the track with a 5speed SC and a bad motor mount is asking for eventual trouble and makes for interesting launches
#3 91mph in the quarter feels extremely slow!

#4. You could of had drag radials today if you but opened your mouth
#5. You need to change out those 20k old copper plugs to ones that will give you back your power
#6. Put an AOD in that thing
Ira R.
10-20-2007, 11:36 PM
7. Juice it. You need to run it on juice :D
8. Bring it to E*Town Wed night and practice, practice, practice.

If all you are running is 91mph then a stock airbox probably isn't a restriction either.

Key thing was on MY MOTOR..Im sure it be a restriction on a 2,500hp turbo motor :O)
Dennis you have my jack!..Actually checking plugs now..Had already bought new one...But I cant jack up my car!!!!

Drag radials on 5-speed not a good idea. You read about Jeramie (92Bird)'s recent problem with his 5-speed on drag radials? If you are just going to slip the clutch and use them for traction then maybe you'll be alright but to just rev and dump things will break.
But then again you aren't making the power that Jeramie's car is.
But yeah, like D said, throw an auto in it :D
DamonSlowpokeBaumann
10-21-2007, 05:42 PM
No auto in this bad boy itsnot a drag car. And dumping the clutch is not my idea of a good time.
pulled afew plugs they looked fine..Wonder whatthat vobration could be..Balancer looks fine also..hmmmm

Nov 17 is track rental day at Cecil County.. Either Jr's Eclipse is going or we are bringing FKR one more time with a bigger hit..

well its better than my sc i did 15.4@94mph I somehow was 4mph faster but .4 slower and damon thinks he had wheelhop issues
Damon put that blower on and a 150 shot of nitrous. Dennis can show you how to use the nitrous. Let Junior drive, Tim

I thought that the new tires cured the wheel hop issue?
DamonSlowpokeBaumann
10-24-2007, 12:50 AM
I actually had no wheelhop at the track. WHat I did have was only three runs to sort things out.
Run 1
Launched off idle..Hooked so well it kind of just bogged...15.3
Run2
Launches a bit higher and loaded the clutch. My motor mount didnt like that to much. Nose went up...Engine went up...Engine slammed back down...bogged...15.0 at 91mph
Run 3
Heck Hooking so well I think I'll really launch it. 60 foot times were only 2.4 and 2.3 respectively....I rev to about 2500, load the clutch...take off..Car jerks (no spin)...Engine comes slamming back down...Bogs..Then blows the tires off....15.4 with a 2.6 60 foot...Was motor hop not wheel hop issues
Now I didnt get to play with shift points to much however first run was at 5000 last two at 5500. Last run I pulled my scp air box off.
Now I know I need to change that mount out and that will get me into the 14's. by itself. It was causing some crazy things to happen
I never miss a gear and ripped the shifts perfect.
What gets me is the 91mph in the last two runs. I think run 1 was 89
I figured it should have been higher. Feels great on the highway but at the track it seems to just not pull up top. I'm thinking the mount had allot to do with it. Poor 60 foot times definitely would effect my top end and teh engine slamming could have potentially caused my knock sensor to kick in??..No idea...But next time at track will be with some new plugs motor mounts....And then some drag radials. Just want to get a nice baseline before I do some stuff to it....Then Im going to get some more numbers...Then its getting ripped apart. I'm putting my shelf wares to good use this year:O)

Yes going to get the teal car out. I'm a little nervous to really beat the heck out of her on the dig. SOmething about 4000 lbs and a 5 speed just makes me feel weasy. But I'd like to get a good understanding of where it sits now..We shall seeee

Damon, the lower the 60' on a run, will always net a lower MPH.
Mike8675309
10-24-2007, 09:11 PM
Track vs street at the top of the track.
#1 High Intake Air Charge Temps
#2 Shift points too high, outside the power band.
oh, and bogging at the line will kill mph at the end. Wheel spin at the line can actually help mph at the end, but hurts ET.
DamonSlowpokeBaumann
10-24-2007, 11:07 PM
Funny thing is regardless of my shift point or 60 foot I still netted approximately the same mph. It just seems way off. I really need a test and tune day to really play with teh shift point and launch variables

Ah hell just put the thing on without it. Nothing that a hose clamp and a couple straps from HD won't fix.

JB weld it to the intake.
my accord balancer fell off and stripped out keyway on crank. I put half a tube of JB weld on inside of pulley, around the crank, on the keyway, put some on the bolt and cranked it down as tight as possible.. let sit for 2 days... probably like 10k miles later, goin stronggggggggggggggggg
